Trade Laf to a real, modern style hockey team and he will probably blow up. Meanwhile, JT Miller is already showing signs of reverting to what we had when he was here. Are the Rangers better at undeveloping players?

Undeveloping lol. Like reverse the developmental process. Like Superman flying in reverse to turn Earth's rotation around.

Kuzy tweeted a few years ago after Laviolette was fired that he was a terrible coach. They got Carberry with a largely unimpressive roster and are suddenly at the top of the East. Maybe Kuzy was right.

Maybe they have a good GM who made the right moves with their Cap space ? Somebody obviously knows you can't have all soft players in the forward ranks .

Kuznetsov didn't like Laviolette. Kuznetsov also used cocaine, so his mindset... may not have been right. I won't take anything away from Carberry, but the Capitals roster was remade with some solid veterans in the right roles and young players who are breaking out all at the right time. Doubt players like McMichael and Protas would have any complaints about Laviolette.

Maybe Laviolette wasn't the best coach for Kuznetsov, and isn't the best coach for Lafreniere, except Lafreniere was put with Panarin and Trocheck by Laviolette, and it's to that he owes the 52 million dollars he's going to make over the next 7 years.

A lot of their fanbase also soured on Coach Laviolette rather quickly. Like after the 1st year.

Even if he only becomes a 50 point winger, in 3 years a 7m cap hit will be just fine for a 50 point winger. Cap is about to fly.

If he becomes a 60 point or above guy in his prime the cap hit will be good.

See:
Kovalev, Alexei.

70-90 point player everywhere else.
50 point player here. Twice.

I wanted Carbury.

Funny to here how silent the corners of the internet were that were ripping on the Caps' record last season saying he was overhyped.

I'm neutral on Laviolette. He's just kind of generic. Doesn't add much doesn't hurt much. I hated Gallant. That guy was actively holding back the team.

Really depends on how much ice time he needs to be a 50 point guy. We may need more if he is going to be on our first line for the team to excel.

Yeah, but I hate using that to justify his play and success, or lack of success. He took a vacation for most of this season and if the trend continues, saying we'll be ok as long as he's putting up 50 points just feels like we're closing an eye on his play, and allowing him to pretty much suck most of the time.

Anything less than a PPG player with some physicality is a disappointment IMO for Laf. 1st overall picks shouldn't top out as a 2nd/3rd line tweener. 50-60 points for Kaako would have been acceptable. Not for Laf.
