Sheesh...the internet is FOREVER...
This is the play I was talking about on an earlier post. Spezza made Souray look like a traffic cone. Of course Souray forgot the basic tenant on defenseman....PLAY THE MAN, NOT THE PUCK. Which means that you tie him up as best as you can to keep him from passing or worse, taking a shot. In this case, Souray tried to hip check him instead of just plain old tying him up.
BTW...Hutson has impressed me a LOT by his tenacious tying up of forwards massively bigger then him. The very definition of "play your man".
Another point...X spent a lot of time getting the basics right in defense. He was getting taught that you keep the stick in front of you as first contact, to slow down the forward, THEN you come in with the body. Too often X tried to crush his opponent and landed up looking like a cone. We now have a prime example of someone who has the basics down pat...HUTSON. He's always trying to engage the forwards with his stick FIRST and then maybe a bit of body engagement, given that he doesn't have the mass to do much more.
