Prospect Info: Logan Mailloux Part 3 The Only Hockey Talk Thread

I'm a fan of Reinbacher and believer in his future value to the Habs but he certainly hasn't outplayed Mailloux in Laval.

I’m rooting for him, that’s for sure. But things have not gone well.

I've watched every single Laval Rocket game the last couple of seasons, and I disagree with you on this.

I personally think David Reinbacher has been Laval's best defenseman basically every game he's played in the AHL, and that he's much more pro-ready than Mailloux

But that doesn't mean I think Logan Mailloux is a bad prospect too, because he isn't.

Just, I've seen fairly little progress defensively from Mailloux this season and that plateau-ing is the opposite of what you want to see in a young prospect.

Development isn't linear, and maybe next season Mailloux takes giant strides forward. But for now I think Mailloux still has work to put in to get his defensive game in order before he sees a lot of NHL icetime.

We don't want Mailloux to "Barron it", and basically flatline his progression because of early-NHL time and trying to cling to his NHL paycheck some way, somehow.

I'd much rather we graduate Reinbacher next season, whilst giving Mailloux even more minutes next year in the AHL, PKing and eating the most minutes he can defensively so that he'd be ready to integrate the NHL team for 2026-2027.

Nope, he is waivers-exempt as he is still on his ELC and hasn't played enough NHL games to clear the threshold.

They need to keep both Rein and Mailloux unless they have an opportunity for a home run trade (beniers or mctavish).

The need for redundancy is obvious as they both still come with question marks.

Development of young players has alot twists and turns for sure.

I've been saying this for years but most people just don't want to listen, they just come to this board to tell others that their opinion is wrong. No one on this board has been a bigger supporter of proper development and I've gotten a ton of shit for it as you still have posters that try to tell you that development and coaching don't matter, you are either born with it or not or whatever bullshit they are trying to sling. Anyone that's ever had a coach that helped them unlock something in their game, knows what kind of impact the right coach can have.

It's possible that I place too much importance on development and coaching but it's also possible I don't place enough as I think it's vastly important due to hockey being so much of a mental game, as it comes down to skate pass shoot, but if you don't have the confidence to do these things, it can have a major impact on your game.
