My guess is they are changing it to be similar to the NBA Lottery. 14th last gets a chance to get 1st overall but its like .5%

Are they adding 2 playoff spots to each Conference?

Given that they have been talking about 14 non-playoff teams, it doesn't sound like it.

The picks we gave up in the kessel trade would have been worth more under these rules, not less.

Nope.

The picks under these rules would have been smoothed out to not be so "bottom heavy".

Giving greater odds to the "middle of the road teams" means taking away from the bottom-of-the-league teams.

And since Burke gave up what would have been a 2nd overall under the previous CBA, could have been a 6th, 10th, or 17th pick under the new rules.

You haven't been paying much attention to the talks as of late.

When we traded those picks, we had finished 7th worst the previous two years, had finished closer to playoff spots than top-3 picks, and had added talent for the next season.

the rules would have made those picks more valuable at the time of the trade.

Incorrect

We finished 2nd last (Seguin) and Lord knows how much lower with Phil Kessel's eliteness removed from the equation (Couturier range)..

Trading the picks now would have allowed us to have those players (Seguin/Couturier) and then an elite talent right now and at a much lower risk (since the the NHL/NHLPA have negotiated a different scheme)

He is a defensive style coach without the defensive players to utilize.

Do you realize?

Again our core is young and they can easily earn their stripes in that area. People may beg to differ but I've seen him do the same with the ducks as well, so I am not worried. Best part is we also know that he likes and knows our prospects well, especially our best forward prospect in Kadri.

We had never finished anywhere close to 2nd last when we traded those picks.

With Tyler Bozak as the number one center?
With Dion Phaneuf as the number one d-man?
With James Reimer as the number one goalie?

Compare that to Getzlaf, Pronger, and Giguere.

Come on.

Let's just hope for MacKinnon being drafted by us...and let these silly aspirations just die.

This is a thread about the lockout. If you want to discuss your own opinions on the Leafs, there are hundreds of other threads in this forum to go do that on.

Now, I think something we need to outline if it hasn't been outlined before: 70.2 million is maximum spending allowed (basically the salary cap) for this year for Leafs. We could easily lock up Franson and still have space for a certain 5.33 million dollar goaltender. Anyone thinking this too?

Also, what's the chance of amnesty'ing Komisarek before the 2013-14 season if his play is insufficient again this year?

Now I'm worried we'll continue our streak and miss the playoffs again, finish 9th and get a mediocre pick.

Compared to a young cam fowler? chris kunitz? an offensive juggernaught teemus selnne? getzlaf and perry as well were young under his time and wasn't in the first lines as myth goes to belief. Neither was Bobby Ryan, neither was Dan sexton.

Bozie isn't a number one centerman but Dion is a number 1 D. Reimer has yet to prove if he is the number 1, as well Bozak any level headed fanbase would know is best suited for the third line due to his defensive abilities.

The Leafs are no where near challengers for playoffs.

Just like every other year.

What I am personally hoping for is a result that gets a) Nathan MacKinnon (the #1 centre we've been dreaming of) and b) Brian Burke/Dave Nonis fired.

Why?

Because your argument makes absolutely no sense?

Please continue to explain why first round picks have "appreciated" in value after this CBA settlement.

Laughable.

Picks from a team that had finished in the #7 range two years running would obviously be worth much more under these new rules than they were before, as they would be much more likely to turn into top 3 picks.

this is obvious, which is why you really have to stop.

So the ceiling this year is $70 million and the floor is $44.
That's very significant.

Are there any decent free agents still available?

I don't even remember anymore...

Lock the lockout thread :yo:

PS: I mean, if you still want, can discuss so on Business/NHL board.
