Lol I don't support the jets so that's good.

And you think the money you spend all goes to the Devils? There is a reason MLB has labor peace for over 20 years. Empty stadiums is the correct answer. That and Beatlejuice left their PA.

It's a bit simplistic to say baseball only has labor peace because of fan numbers going down for a few years post-lockout since they darn near struck again in 2002. Plus the '94 strike helped shut down a cap forever in baseball, so there was less of a reason for the owners to try to go to the wall to 'break the union'.

I don't neccesarily want to see the NHL resort to steroids (or bigger nets) to get fans back either.

Besides, like others have alluded to everything's about the money, in EVERY sport or every form of entertainment. Why should the NHL be any different? Because of our 'idealized' notion of how these players should be different? That's a myth.

Yeah but they also make a ton of money and have a system in place that everyone there is happy with..

Let me ask you this - had only the fans of the Blue Jays, Royals, Athletics, and Indians protested do you think that would have brought about change?

That's what is going to happen here.. Fans of the Bruins and Rangers (for example) who stop going to games will be replaced by others and their owners will not really care.. Fans of the Devils who don't show up will mean empty seats and a tougher time paying off Jeff's debts

Absolutely, if you watch that and can't get pumped for this season than the NHL nonsense really has affected you (or you're scared that losing Parise and others mean we're going to suck this year lmao).

Anyone think we run 7 D?
yes, but i have a reputation of being obsessed with d-men playing as forwards so what do i know.

Agreed, but there's at least 5 players in Albany I'd rather have at forward than Harrold. Pretty much my point. There's no reason for Harrold to be in that position.

as i said above, i'm biased, but can you name them? because i can't. is he the best option we have as a pure forward? probably not, but he does have, in my opinion, the second best offensive skill set of any d-man we have which puts him on par offensively with a good many bottom six players in the league and he's also a pretty responsible player. i'd much rather see him putting up 4 points in 30 games than tedenby doing the same thing if it comes to that. not to mention if you play him at forward you still get all the benefits of running 7 d-men.

should he be on our 3rd line for 40/48 games? no, but i could see him logging 12-15 games as a forward and honestly, i'd be comfortable with that.

So will people go to the first game? Would love to see a completely empty stadium for the first game.

If fans of the Blue Jays, Royals, and Athletics said they didn't want to protest because they were scared, would the league take them seriously? Probably not. The mentality of not caring enough and not making some push back is what will cause this to happen and what caused it to happen 3 times in the NHL now. Don't blame the Bruins and Rangers for your resolve.

Weren't they saying center ice might be free for the shortened season though? I mean, I doubt it will be, but it's possible.

I am not sure if it was a rumor or total BS but i thought they were saying Center Ice was going to be free. Not that i believe it but still. I would think Gamecenter would have to be also.

Not sure about G.C. but there's a rumor Center Ice will be free. I'll believe it when I see it though.

it being free would be something an actually competently run organization would do after severely injuring their consumer base with months of bad pr. we can't expect that from this league.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion

If they want to go back right away, great, if not, great, what should it matter to others

You never actually answered my question, probably because you came to an answer you wouldn't like.. But let's say every Devils fan decided to boycott the team in an effort to impact the league - what would be the result? The team would have moved and we'd be looking at another lockout assuming the same owners (of other teams, may I remind you) are pushing hard for a lockout

Also, no one here is "scared" of protesting, we've just already come to the obvious conclusion that boycotting the Devils is an ineffective way to voice displeasure with the NHL/NHLPA and actually bring about some change..

And I'm not being vocal about it to tell you what to do.. I'm doing it to simply outline the realistic consequences of your decision that you have every right to make.. It kills me to think that a guy like Jacobs can push for these lockouts and come away with sellouts and little impact while the Devils, who at least remained quiet and uninvolved, are going to feel a bigger impact as a result

So I encourage everyone to weigh the options and make the decision they feel is right.. I think Cerebral and I laid out pretty good cases for either side.. I don't want to argue more about this with fellow Devils fans since I consider all of you to be friends anyway.. High 5s all around
