I would prefer a LW over a RW. His production really fell last year compared to 10-11 because I guess he was hurt.

He started playing bottom-six minutes. I believe Blues fans said he was playing on the fourth line. Besides, we need RWs more than LWs, unless you are concerned about the LW3 spot. When all the centers are healthy, Kovalchuk and Elias will be our top two LWs. Zubrus, Butler, Clarkson will battle it out on the RW side. Zubrus can also play LW if needed as well.

I wish the NHL was not letting the teams spend up to 70.2 and it was 60 for this season. I was hoping to see the Minnesota Wild scramble to have to fit Parise and Suter under their cap. We should be grateful that our cap has declined and we have plenty or room for this season and next.

Elias hasn't played LW in quite some time. So with Henrique out for 2-3 weeks we should just keep him at C. I think we are set at RW with Butler, Zubrus, Clarkson, and Bernier. We are thin at LW because we only have Kovy and Carter. I am not even sure that Lou is sold on Tedenby or Pesonen.

With only Kovy as our only top#6 forward... And Henrique since he'll be turning RFA, so we aren't losing him unless someone throws a offer sheet his way.

Also they haven't changed 2013-2014 cap from 70 million to 64.3.

Exactly ~32 million. Elias will get around 5, Clarkson 3.5, Zajac 5-5.5, Zubrus 3. That's 17 million right there, plus resigning Josefson and Henrique are due raises. Probably somewhere between 5-7 for the two of them, depending on their production this season. Again, that's anywhere from 22-24 million just from resigning players. I'm not saying we resign all of them, but if we don't, we will sign a guy pretty comparable for a similar hit. Like if Clarkson goes, we'll sign MacArthur etc.

The only bonus is that our defense and goaltending is set, so all the money will be spent at the forward position.

I guess the biggest fear is Zajac signs with Winnipeg and Clarkson signs with Toronto.

I just read Larry Brooks NY Post article for today. At the end of the article he informed his readers that NYP columnist Mark Everson is retiring. I know that some on this board referred to him as Mark Neverson, but I didn't mind him at all. Even though he did focus on the negative quite a bit. I guess the Devils will need a new beat writer to cover the team.

It will probably mean Butler gets a top 6 role as a stop gap or perhaps Sykora could be re-signed.

Kovalchuk - Zajac - Clarkson
Elias - Zubrus - Butler
Carter - Gionta - Bernier
Tedenby - Josefson - Barch

Oh yeah.....I forgot about Sykora.

Hey Bleedred, we can both go back to our Sykora-loving selves again.

I hope he's brought back now that a deal was reached which saved what's left of the 2013 season. A shortened season with Sykora would ensure that he stays more effective instead of burning out over a longer season.

Curious to see how training camp will work. Will we just not bother bringing in CHL players considering none of them will make the team? Well I assume none would make the team.

If the Mediator is the one that kept things going I want to see his face painted on the ice with a slogan (The man that saved Hockey).

About to post about him. Mediator saved the day, he kept them interested and involved. 16hours of negotiations and it was all constant flow.
That man deserves a cookie.

Has Sykora even done anything? You would think if he felt he had a realistic shot at playing he would have signed one of those temp deals overseas during the lockout.

I feel like he wouldn't sign it if he had a chance....by the playoffs last year he was out of gas. IN a shortened season I think Sykora will look fine

Last I heard he said his so-called "deadline" was around Christmas before making a decision....

Maybe now that he sees that the Lockout is over and we will have a shortened season, he might just come back and ask Lou for another one-year deal(or two).... ;)

EDIT : EXACTLY, hlaverty06! In a shortened season, Sykora would remain effective even throughout....dare I say it.....THE PLAYOFFS!! MIND BLOWN! :amazed:

Yeah and I actually think we need Sykora this year, next season we can nab someone in FA or Tedenby finally solidifies an NHL spot.
