I would prefer a LW over a RW. His production really fell last year compared to 10-11 because I guess he was hurt.
He started playing bottom-six minutes. I believe Blues fans said he was playing on the fourth line. Besides, we need RWs more than LWs, unless you are concerned about the LW3 spot. When all the centers are healthy, Kovalchuk and Elias will be our top two LWs. Zubrus, Butler, Clarkson will battle it out on the RW side. Zubrus can also play LW if needed as well.
HOLY ****.
NHL Lockout being over got front page on ESPN! I'm amazed.
We have a ton of cap space available for the 2013-2014 season. We are 3rd from the bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.capgeek.com/payrolls/?charts_year=2013&salary_cap=$70,200,000
I guess with Elias, Zubrus, Zidlicky, etc... going off the books.
With only Kovy as our only top#6 forward... And Henrique since he'll be turning RFA, so we aren't losing him unless someone throws a offer sheet his way.
Also they haven't changed 2013-2014 cap from 70 million to 64.3.
Exactly ~32 million. Elias will get around 5, Clarkson 3.5, Zajac 5-5.5, Zubrus 3. That's 17 million right there, plus resigning Josefson and Henrique are due raises. Probably somewhere between 5-7 for the two of them, depending on their production this season. Again, that's anywhere from 22-24 million just from resigning players. I'm not saying we resign all of them, but if we don't, we will sign a guy pretty comparable for a similar hit. Like if Clarkson goes, we'll sign MacArthur etc.
The only bonus is that our defense and goaltending is set, so all the money will be spent at the forward position.
WOOOHOOO!!! WE HAZ HOCKEY AGAIN!!!
It will probably mean Butler gets a top 6 role as a stop gap or perhaps Sykora could be re-signed.
Kovalchuk - Zajac - Clarkson
Elias - Zubrus - Butler
Carter - Gionta - Bernier
Tedenby - Josefson - Barch
If the Mediator is the one that kept things going I want to see his face painted on the ice with a slogan (The man that saved Hockey).
Has Sykora even done anything? You would think if he felt he had a realistic shot at playing he would have signed one of those temp deals overseas during the lockout.

Last I heard he said his so-called "deadline" was around Christmas before making a decision....
Maybe now that he sees that the Lockout is over and we will have a shortened season, he might just come back and ask Lou for another one-year deal(or two)....
EDIT : EXACTLY, hlaverty06! In a shortened season, Sykora would remain effective even throughout....dare I say it.....THE PLAYOFFS!! MIND BLOWN!
Yeah and I actually think we need Sykora this year, next season we can nab someone in FA or Tedenby finally solidifies an NHL spot.
There's a better chance of Clarkie winning an Ice-Skating competition.....
