It's very normal to be apprehensive about a big all-in trade before we know what the particulars are/will be/could be.
Once upon a time, Cliff Fletcher guaranteed big upgrades every year. See how that Clark, Schneider upgrade turned out.
Like I said- this is classic leafs fans behaviour here.
First place team, committed to an upgrade, a GM that has shown many times he understands the value of futures......the proper emotion to have here is excitement, not fear.
You comparing Kyle Dubas to Cliff Fletcher just emphasizes what Zeke is talking about.
What is pray tell do you mean “gets bent over “ ?dubas gets bent over on every deal. now he comes out openly and tells everyone we will be willing to deal a top prospect....
this is gonna get ugly
“ Does not have a lot of grit or toughness,so he does not always take full advantage of his big frame at the NHL level. Also, he does not shoot the puck nearly enough.”Just Ekhholm alone would change this team so much, that would be an embarrassment of riches on Defence, maybe top 5 defence core in the NHL? WOW that is a dream eh?
SCOUTING REPORT
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Has a huge frame (6-4, 215 pounds), puck-moving ability and a big shot from the point. Usually keeps his game very simple and minimizes his mistakes. Owns all-round acumen. Does not have a lot of grit or toughness, so he does not always take full advantage of his big frame at the NHL level. Also, he does not shoot the puck nearly enough. Long Range Potential: Quality, all-round defenseman.
I don't think Dubas is draft Schmaft like Cliff or short-sighted with no foundation like Burke. Sure he's traded a 2019 1st for a needed upgrade with term who was then extended. He then drafted a 2nd roumder better than most 1st rounders from that year.
He traded away a 2020 1st but got one back just two slots later.
I'm not sure where the apprehensiveness in terms of futures comes from.
I also don't understand where there's room to truly add a huge piece that costs significant assets.Speaking only for myself, an all in move costing a lot of futures could involve a lot of different prospect and pick permutations, a lot of different rosters players coming back and multiple affected positions, and Dubas has made trades that I both love and hate. So the possibilities could be anything positive or negative.
Put it another way, how can you be a fan of something that hasn't happened yet?
Like mentioned earlier, a trade like Robertson for Hall. What do you think? What is pray tell do you mean “gets bent over “ ?
Do tell ...
I also don't understand where there's room to truly add a huge piece that costs significant assets.
Feels like we have room to improve, but not land a huge fish from what I see
Rakell + Gibson for Kerfoot, Andersen, Robertson, 1st and 2nd...would you do it?
Like mentioned earlier, a trade like Robertson for Hall. What do you think?
Pretty sure he was talking about Cliffs second tenure.Cliff Fletcher was a rock star in his day. He was trusted to take the Leafs to the promised land. He got pretty far. Made some all in moves. Didn’t get it done.
Is Hall just a rental in that deal?Like mentioned earlier, a trade like Robertson for Hall. What do you think?
Yeah, I believe he only signed a 1 year deal this past offseason. Is Hall just a rental in that deal?
I wouldn’t let go of Robertson and Lilly
I know Brotha
Just trying to bring some levity to our recent woes
Pretty sure he was talking about Cliffs second tenure.
Here’s a fun thought experiment: imagine Dubas in Cliff’s day, with the Leafs full financial might...and no salary cap.
naw I wouldn't do it, IMO is hard to judge just how good the leafs really are with this Canadian division and he is a pretty good prospect almost nhl readyYeah, I believe he only signed a 1 year deal this past offseason.
Yup, I imagine he’d flex the money muscle and keep building in the background.Well, that freedom was both a blessing and a curse. The problem with the situation is that GM's were lazy and overspent for past their prime talent, usually for the long term and to appease a very hungry fanbase. Maybe more passionate than even the fans today. Fans were nostalgic rather than logical and owners wanted to keep them happy.
Rangers were the only franchise that seemed to do the same, but they happened to squeeze out a Cup out of it with a very talented 1994 team. Other than that, they were generally many of their signing were grossly overpaid, forgettable and regrettable. They also lost too many times to the Devils in the playoffs to remember after that comeback in '94.
It's a different time and game. I will say, Cliff rolled the dice more than he should have, but, it kept a fresh motivated team and fanbase. I don't think Dubas is immune from big moves, he's probably had more conversations than anyone could imagine over the last year. Without Cap restrictions, with the great blooming draft picks that have made Toronto a desirable place to play; I'd like our chances in most years.
I would do it personally, if the Ducks were willing to retain 50% on Rackell because it would help next year. I'd probably try to have the 1st and 2nd round picks be spread out between this year and next.
I don't think the Ducks will do it though. I jmdon't think they have any interest in moving Gibson for an expiring Anderson, unless some team is willing to make a stupid good offer.
