Player Discussion Linus Ullmark (G)

Ullmark interviews look outward to the whole team play in his responses... which I guess is good

He took the VGK game on the chin. From a fan (my) perspective last night was worse.. maybe he has a different perspective..

Plenty of blame every single game but bottom line is he needs to start being Vezina ish caliber cuz the last 7 years show us November cost us often
Ok, but you said,

"He has single handedly now cost us 4 games or even 5 including this one"

So that is what was being responded to.

1st and last goals didn't feel like scoring chances, the other 3 goals were at least quality chances even if he should have had them.

I'd have to go back the the Vegas game to compare, but my gut feeling is similar to yours, this one felt more on him.

It's very weird that Ullmark and Swayman, two of the most consistent goalies in the NHL, are both crapping the bed to start the year.

Who would have guessed that Korpisalo and Forsberg would be outperforming those two 15 games in?
It seems breaking up the bromance was akin to Prince Paris firing the arrow into Achilles' heel,

Ullmark's bad games can't be this bad. It can kill team morale when everyone plays the way they're uspposed to and your goalie shits the bed in the 3rd

Just to be clear, you realize he is referring to the Vegas game, not last nights game, right?
Ahh ok my bad then, ya that game when downhill after Cousins penalty with 4 minutes left.

How about you go back and watch the highlights of the game and tell me how it was Ullmark's fault that game was lost?

The only goal I kind of see that was Ullmark's fault could have been the last goal before the empty net, but instead I see Hamonic getting beat wide, going down for a blocked shot and screening Ullmark. That type of cross ice slapshot chance should only be given up on the powerplay, see Batherson's goal from last night.

Now will you reciprocate?
Thought you were talking about last night, my bad.

Wasn't me
Just responded to it
My bad, you're still responding to posts specifically debating that claim though, and adding that game as an example, so while you didn't say it, you claimed that game met that threshold.

Don't fire at me
Im just trusting Linus on what he felt cost them the Vegas game
If we are all assuming its the Cousins mistake and nothing else and Linus is just taking the blame to create a diversion Im all good with that too
Peace

What I'm saying is the loss wasn't solely on one person. Not Ullmark, not Cousins, not Hamonic. All three conspired to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory...

Really hope he's back in tomorrow. If he stinks, it just continues what's been a rough start by his standards. Sitting him just builds that mental turmoil we all saw in the pg interview. I also think that was the response of an extreme competitor. Bet he's dying to get back in.

Ya and Carolina throws everything at the net, so will be hard to keep the shots down, like team has been doing.

In hindsight, Forsberg should've started against Philadelphia. I understand the reasoning of wanting to get Ullmark games and into a rhythm after two strong performances, but the game against the Flyers is the exact game you don't want your starter having, and it's one of the reasons teams put in their backups against basement teams. If a goalie has a complete stinker against one of the worst teams in the league, that can shake their confidence. It's easy to shake off a bad performance against a team like Florida or Edmonton, but against a bad team that you dominated all game? A lot tougher to shrug off.

Let's hope Ullmark is mentally tough and has moved on from that loss, he did look pretty affected by it in the post game.

We don't know what sort of interactions are going on behind the scenes, so it is easy to say Forsberg should have started. But they might have reason to believe that in the long run it's better to give Ullmark the chance to get over the slump now rather than letting it snowball into something bigger.

It's a very strange start with how many bad goals he has let in. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt based on his extremely high level of play so far in his career. If he still hasn't put it together by January, and there isn't a legitimate excuse you can point to as justification for his play like an injury or personal situation, then I'll be concerned.
