This is a really good idea but I'm not sure most fans around here are ready to cough up something like a 1st round pick, roster player and high prospect.
1st round pick with protections absolutely. I'd actually be willing to pay a lot of draft stock, less inclined to move any of our top prospects. A roster player like Berggren/Veleno, for sure.

I'd add Ras to that list and that Yzerman is praying one of them builds some trade value this season. It feels like we've kept them around at their salaries (especially Ras and Veleno) because we have had the luxury of being able to afford it. They need to turn the corner or they're going to get moved, imo.

So Zadina Veleno Raz plus a second for Andersson?

Agreed. I'm hardly a pollyanna but people complained about Kasper not being in the opening lineup. Now he's playing. People complained about Johanssen not getting more of a look. Now he's getting that.

I haven't seen a lot of acknowledgment of it. Now it's just back to how much Copp and Chiarot suck.

This forum has gotten so negative that now I'm apparently an optimist here. lol
Fair point.

You're totally right. Because Edvinsson took so long to make it last year, and how willing we were to sit Holl most of the year, I think most of us saw Kasper being down with Johansson and Berggren sitting in the press box and feared that we'd once again run out vets over them unless forced by circumstances ie injuries.

That didn't happen! Great honestly. That's a big win for us. Plus Edvinsson-Seider has become our default first pairing. Ed is still making some rookie mistakes (admittedly fewer) and Lalonde is tolerating that on the first line. For Derek "we need to manage risk better" Lalonde, that's big.

I'll also say though that as long as we are a team that's struggling to be .500 while getting out shot 2-1 most nights, you're going to see people be negative. There's a very real fear that we have been quite lucky these first ten games and should expect worse results from here on out.

I think a lot of that fear stems form personnel (Copp, Petry, Chiarot, etc. as you said), some of it is our system (dump and chase at 5 on 5 unless the rush is clear, generate on the powerplay, turtle with the lead, play a tight box around the net defensively to minimize high danger chances at the expense of challenging for possession on the outside). Hopefully, a lot of it was the flu that went through the league.

I was very unhappy with our opening light lineup, but now I think our lineup is as good as we can make it with the players we have.

Red Wings trade F Vladimir Tarasenko, F J.T. Compher, LHD Simon Edvinsson, G Trey Augustine and Red Wings 1st round pick.

Canucks trade F Elias Pettersson and LHD Derek Forbort
.

Alex DeBrincat – (C) Dylan Larkin – Patrick Kane
Jonatan Berggren – Elias Pettersson – Lucas Raymond
Joe Veleno – Marco Kasper – Carter Mazur
Michael Rasmussen – (A) Andrew Copp – Christian Fischer
* Tyler Motte
* Austin Watson

Derek Forbort – Mortiz Seider
(A) Ben Chiarot – Jeff Petry
Albert Johansson – Erik Gustafsson

Figure out the Defensemen market at the TDL.

Fair. I'm not in any way calling Edvinsson a bad player.

I personally think Yzerman could replace a player like Edvinsson easier than finding a player as good as Elias Pettersson.
We don't know yet how good Edvinsson is.

I thought people have been talking about Marcus Pettersson, who would be a stout top 4D to add to this team $4M and a UFA in 2025. Possible trade target for Yzerman? Pens are trying to be competitive but they're going to suck until Sullivan is fired

Elias Pettersson at that 11.6M cap hit? Get the hell outta here :slaugh:

Because we're not the only fan base that likes small sample size.

Canucks are in a playoff spot, they're not trading him.
To go in depth...

The only reason it gets brought up really is this is the first year of his max extension, and there is a NMC in his deal EXCEPT the 1st year. HE's also struggling a little here early... the thought is Vancouver "MIGHT" move him at some point if he continues to struggle and they get a good offer. Vancouver "Coach Tocchet" specifically wants another quality puck moving LHD.

The most likely thing is he'll turn it around pretty dang soon, and rain down 80-100 points as they make the playoffs.

But hey, there's a "window" and chance as unlikely as it is. Outside of me, no one even wants it. I'm being told Edvinsson is actually better. (I hope so, that'd be so awesome!)

right now, to us, and going forward? Yes.

I think replacing Ed would prove as difficult as finding an Elias Pettersson..
Idk, UFA there are guys like Provorov and Lindgren available, for now. I think they'd be gettable guys at "decent" price tags. 6X6 or something.

I guess you could try Mitch Marner or Mikko Rantanen, but I think both will cost more than 11 million per year (it is debatable and just my opinion though), Elias Pettersson's deal might look like a bargain compared to their next deals.

Now, if Pettersson struggles and does pretty average his deal is going to look like Jonathan Huberdeau's,(just younger). I'm OBVIOUSLY betting that doesn't play out like that.

I'd dream a little about Kaprizov but Wild are doing great and ownership said they'll do whatever it takes so... :ha:

Kaprizov is one of the guys I dream about.

edit: provorov and Lindgren are good guys, but I think Ed is at their level now or close to it. Maybe he doesn't keep growing as a player, but I bet he does and he and seider will be 1a/1b kinda guys and a big strength for us.

And I'd rather roll the dice on that and take a swing at a ufa like marner than deal him and sign someone like provorov.

Bellingham, WA
Cat Larkin Kane
Kasper Compher Raymond
Berggren Copp Tank

Said it in the GDT, I want Kasper and Copp to switch places. Let Marco focus on offense.

It's nice that Copp is putting up some points, but Marco is way more important to the future of this team. Copp can take Kane's shifts at the end of games to get his empty netters.
