Seth Jones has a cap hit of 9.5M, is 30 years old, and is signed until 2030. He doesn't fit the plans with ASP coming up.

Too bad we didn't get Trouba.
I know Jones plays on a bad team, but I think he is legitimately better than Trouba. ASP isn't coming up anytime soon, and when he does Jones can play PK, something ASP doesn't or isn't expected to do. They'll have different roles or can have different roles.

And... you don't even read my post anymore. Just look for a disagreement, his cap hit would be 7.125 million in this case with Chicago eating up 25%.

Seth jones money is better than Holl/Maata/Gustavsson/Petry all put together. I'm also not mad not getting him, lol, his contract is till he's 35, and while I think he'll age fine and produce maybe 7.125 million can be spent on someone else, though I bet it gets spread out between trash.

I'm real close to F free agents, the organization doesn't bring good ones in anyways.

Edvisson - Seider
Johansson - Jones

I like that top four. If you want ASP next year.

Edvinsson - Seider
Johansson - Jones
Chiarot - Sandin-Pellikka

I'd take Trouba over Seth Jones easily. Seth Jones barely had more hits than Holl last year.

Trouba gets close or some years exceeds Seider's stats in hits and blocked shots.

They are different styles of defensemen. Seth Jones should be thought of as the more defensive responsible replacement for Gostisbehere than a physical shutdown defenseman like Trouba.

I really think Trouba would look a lot more like Ben Chariot on our team, coming from a very talented team to ours, vs Jones who's on a crappy team and would be inserted into a better situation. Just an opinion though.

It's possible, but Trouba is so much meaner than Benny. I think Ed-Trouba would be interesting to watch.

Now having said that I'd rather find a better longterm solution. But I wouldn't cry if next season our top 4 is Theodore-Seider, Ed-Trouba.

I think Jones is too old and the contract is too long. What I liked about Trouba was that he only had 2 years left, which I think was about perfect to get Ed fully integrated. Then he could resign on short term deals if still chugging along at a decent rate.

I don't discount a mid aged guy at a longer term deal, but it would be more a Werenski than a Trouba/ Jones. If we are going older I think we purely look at a short term (3 seasons or less) option.

Some interesting options that I feel could be available. Rental wise Fowler probably makes the most sense. Not sure how Martinez is looking in Chi ( I know he is currently injured).

Provorov (CLB, UFA in Summer), Theodore (VGS, UFA in Summer), Fowler (Anh, 1 year more at 6.5), Alec Martinez (Chi, UFA in Summer)

All the good defensemen in the world won't help if all we do is slap the puck along the boards or chip it out.
Yeah, and if by chance we get it out to a teammate in the neutral zone and don't lose it, we dump it into the offensive zone.

This "the puck is lava" strategy is not a winning strategy.

If we don't plan to bring Buchelnikov, get rid of Tarasenko. Maybe Tarasenko+ Rasmussen can bring us good d

Might as well try something drastically different, this shit is clearly not working. Getting outshot by 10+ shots a game is not it.

DeBrincat-Larkin-Raymond
Tarasenko-Kasper-Berggren
Rasmussen-Compher-Kane
Fischer-Copp-Veleno

Bump the young guys up the lineup, the vets aren’t getting it done.

Berggren is just as lousy as defensive forward as Kane, and about 50% worse on offense.

There's no reason to slot Berggren ahead of Kane. And why bump up Tarasenko, who's been about as bad as anyone?

At this point the only reason to keep chugging the Berggren train is that posters are just afraid to admit they were off on a player. It's ridiculous! Should have sold Berggren while his value was higher. He's just too weak physically and not good enough offensively to justify a spot on this team at this point.

It's getting reminiscent of the Filip Zadina ball-washing (which no one will admit to), where it got to the point where when all else failed, Zadina had become "one of team's best defensive forwards).

Just like Zadina, Berggren will have carved out a career back in his homeland before very long.

somewhere around nothing
Rasmussen - Larkin - Raymond
DeBrincat - Kasper - Kane
Copp - Compher - Tarasenko
Berggren - Veleno - Fischer

Ras has been warm'ish lately, award him 1st line minutes. Kasper making space for Kane to do his thing. Move Tank on the right wing, maybe that wakes him up. The rest goes to 4th.

Moronic for trading Kane. Literally just got our last 2 game winners and under a coach with a system he will be dynamite.
You could get first for him,or not? Outside our first line we don't have any trading value. You don't want to trade kids, because it's a future, we also don't have enough to get somewhere. If you could get first for Kane , second for Tarasenko you could get lucky getting extra solid prospect.
If this is Kane last season, let him try to win another cup and give Red Wings extra first

We'd be lucky to get a 2nd for kane . He won't fetch a 1st cause he'll choose his destination

Chiarot has 34CF% and Petry 36CF% even strenght, they can't seem to complete simple passes causing the team to get bogged down. I won't say it's all they're fault that we're getting heavily outshot, but the other defensive pairs are doing better. I wonder if it might be worst paring in the league.

I'd like to see:

Kasper-Larkin-DeBrincat
Raymond-Compher-Kane
Rasmussen-Copp-Tarasenko
Berggren-Veleno-Fischer

Edvinsson-Seider
Johansson-Chiarot
Maata/Gus-Holl

I would look at trading Berggren and Maata. I don't see a future for Berggren in the organization, and might aswell trade him while he still may have value. If there are injuries on the forward side it's better to give Mazur/Lombardi/Danielsson looks with the big club.

We can talk forward lines until we are blue in the face but they aren’t gonna matter when the D can’t make an outlet pass to save their lives.
