Line Combos: Lines you expect to see vs what you want to see

Let me take a look at my previous post around here (#196) .. and let me scroll through my memories of the first game.. uh, high risk for anxiety and nightmares, better keep that short..

More and more, I get the impression that we need to rebuild/replace parts of that roster. What value does it have if certain guys score points on offense, if their lines/pairings give up more goals on the other end?

To some degree, better combinations/pairings would help, but overall you should get rid of (or avoid to sign, in the first place) players who lack defensive talent, or focus, or whatever.

What's absolutely beyond me is, why there are still people mentioning trading Maatta. The guy is just solid and one of the few D we have, that do not get scored on all the time. I know, he doesn't drive the offense or score a lot of points, but 85% of the game is played at even strength and if you give up less than you score yourself.. winning formula.

And yes, of course you won't win with two Maattas on the first line, that's well above his head.. but I would prefer to replace Chiarot, Petry, Holl and Gus with 4 more Maattas.

Raymond is looking great, give him the chance to carry his own line.

Would like to see Johansson pair up with Seider, but it's probably unrealistic right now. By the end of the season that's the top-pair hopefully, along with Kasper in the top-9.

Berggren shouldn't be on the 4th line, either he proves to be productive and reliable on the 3rd/2nd line or you waive him... IMO.

Yeah, the news initially struck me as "Petry is healthy so Holl go bye bye," but you're probably right, all these guys who got waived are probably staying in Detroit while getting "sent down" and "recalled" 30 times in the next month.

It is possible that your instinct is correct.

Personally I'd rather see Petry scratched (if healthy) over Holl at this point.

I’ve tried every permutation of our blue line and I can’t find a set of pairings that doesn’t make me want to jump out of my office building.

Still feel this way and fear I will feel this way all season.

I feel pretty good about the team’s future with our young talent and prospect pool, but the team’s present blue line gets a big Costco Guys “DOOM” from me.

I mean it sounds like Copp is one of the sick players. And playing 3C is a big enough role to call up Kasper instead of Watson. Put together Burgers - Kasper - Tarasenko for line 3

I think at this point you out Mo and Ed together and play them 25+ minutes a game
