Seth Jones has a cap hit of 9.5M, is 30 years old, and is signed until 2030. He doesn't fit the plans with ASP coming up.

Too bad we didn't get Trouba.
I know Jones plays on a bad team, but I think he is legitimately better than Trouba. ASP isn't coming up anytime soon, and when he does Jones can play PK, something ASP doesn't or isn't expected to do. They'll have different roles or can have different roles.

And... you don't even read my post anymore. Just look for a disagreement, his cap hit would be 7.125 million in this case with Chicago eating up 25%.

Seth jones money is better than Holl/Maata/Gustavsson/Petry all put together. I'm also not mad not getting him, lol, his contract is till he's 35, and while I think he'll age fine and produce maybe 7.125 million can be spent on someone else, though I bet it gets spread out between trash.

I'm real close to F free agents, the organization doesn't bring good ones in anyways.

Edvisson - Seider
Johansson - Jones

I like that top four. If you want ASP next year.

Edvinsson - Seider
Johansson - Jones
Chiarot - Sandin-Pellikka

I'd take Trouba over Seth Jones easily. Seth Jones barely had more hits than Holl last year.

Trouba gets close or some years exceeds Seider's stats in hits and blocked shots.

They are different styles of defensemen. Seth Jones should be thought of as the more defensive responsible replacement for Gostisbehere than a physical shutdown defenseman like Trouba.

I really think Trouba would look a lot more like Ben Chariot on our team, coming from a very talented team to ours, vs Jones who's on a crappy team and would be inserted into a better situation. Just an opinion though.

It's possible, but Trouba is so much meaner than Benny. I think Ed-Trouba would be interesting to watch.

Now having said that I'd rather find a better longterm solution. But I wouldn't cry if next season our top 4 is Theodore-Seider, Ed-Trouba.

I think Jones is too old and the contract is too long. What I liked about Trouba was that he only had 2 years left, which I think was about perfect to get Ed fully integrated. Then he could resign on short term deals if still chugging along at a decent rate.

I don't discount a mid aged guy at a longer term deal, but it would be more a Werenski than a Trouba/ Jones. If we are going older I think we purely look at a short term (3 seasons or less) option.

Some interesting options that I feel could be available. Rental wise Fowler probably makes the most sense. Not sure how Martinez is looking in Chi ( I know he is currently injured).

Provorov (CLB, UFA in Summer), Theodore (VGS, UFA in Summer), Fowler (Anh, 1 year more at 6.5), Alec Martinez (Chi, UFA in Summer)

All the good defensemen in the world won't help if all we do is slap the puck along the boards or chip it out.
Yeah, and if by chance we get it out to a teammate in the neutral zone and don't lose it, we dump it into the offensive zone.

This "the puck is lava" strategy is not a winning strategy.
