I don't like complaining about the refs in general but this was a terrible call and Ferraro's inclination to defend every single call the refs make despite not being able to explain his reasoning in any logical way was very frustrating.

If that's a penalty then there's no longer any possible way to make a defensive play in that scenario. Miller's only option is to let the opposing player skate in unimpeded.
Ferraro has been a Tampa shill the entire series. ESPN's coverage has been so disappointing.

Disgusting. Makes me ashamed to be a fan of the same team as this person.

What a disgusting coward that guy is. Cheapshotting someone completely unprovoked and takes off like a little rat. Fighting over sports to begin with is beyond dumb, but risking killing someone is a completely different type of shitty behavior that needs to see consequences. Landing with the back of your head on concrete from that height can very much leave you with permanent health issues, or at the worst kill you.

The headline should not be "Fight at MSG" - It should be "Violent Assault at MSG". Only one party is an active agressor here.

And obviously, ban him from MSG for life.

Ferraro is just awful, how they keep running him out there is beyond me. Find another body or cut his mic, he’s just not good.

edit: hope the pos with the sucker punch gets his. What a cowardly act.

Ferraro is infuriating for this reason. He's just middle man on everything regardless of what the replay shows and it's disorienting for the viewer. Even when it's a bad call that benefits the Rangers it's bizarre listening to him. Replay shows a horrible call and he'll be talking over it like "so there's the play and they called a hook" with no acknowledgement whether it was a good call, bad call, soft call, where the infraction was, why it was a penalty, etc. Even the biggest of homer will make some acknowledgement of a call being weak or something. With the way he's calling the game it really seems like he has some sort of reigns on him by the network or the league because Ferraro has usually been a very good color guy in the past, this year's playoffs is the first time I can remember disliking him.

If that’s true, Stamkos should get a one game suspension.
It was a long time ago but I believe John Ogrodnick received a game suspension for spitting on Gary Robert’s.
Of course there is one huge difference. Ogrodnick was playing for the Rangers and in the league’s eyes that an automatic 1 game suspension.

video looks very much like he does in the motion he makes getting up but too far away to see it literally fly. on the other hand, theres 2 ref/linesman breaking it up, and one was looking at stamkos - laf looks like he reaches to wipe his face but is possible was under his visor to wipe that.probably would have expected more of a reaction and no one on the team said anything after. so the response all around isnt what id have expected had he done it, but definitely enough there on the video to get clarification. either way if he did i dont care for him to be suspended, just want that fuel added to the fire going into game 6

Seems more like a team element than the goalie. Tryring to take his vision and getting a couple lucky bounces isn't figuring him out.
I disagree, they did it twice that game. It was blatantly obvious shesterkin doesn't fight through screens that well. That isn't luck

I disagree. Watching him this ENTIRE year he does a very good job of seeing the puck through screens. Some of them are obviously going to find their way in the back of the net.

Rangers have already taken action to ban him for life from MSG.

The guy is pissed that the Rangers lost like the rest of us, but his anger should be on the Rangers and how crappy they played, not on Lightning fans...

What is the reason for so many bad passes/breakouts where they just wanted nothing except dump the puck out of the D zone? You call that playing well? I call it garbage hockey and poor coaching.
Right. Great analysis.

The same coach who got them to the semis is now a worse coach than you. That makes a lot of sense.

You and some others will never understand that there is an opponent on the ice trying to stop the Rangers.

The proof for this is that when the Rangers win, you think they played well. When they lose, you think they were terrible.

Folks like you never say the other team played well when the Rangers lose and you never say the other team played poorly when the Rangers win.

You live in a universe where the result is solely dependent on how your team plays and has nothing to do with how the other team plays.

Pretty silly thought process.

I don't understand your point (if you even have one)...

I'm 51. I've been going to sporting events since I was taken to Shea Stadium as a 4 or 5 year old to see the Yankees during the stadium reconstruction. I was still a child when I went to MSG for my first Ranger game in 1979, during the heyday of the blue seat chants. I can remember a lot of absolute vulgar stuff that was yelled at those games, BUT, at the core of those chants and songs was dark humor. Attacking Denis Potvin's sexuality or his driving skills or something directed toward a team or player OTHER than "you suck" seemed to be actually less directly offensive toward an opposing fan.

I have held season tickets in some form for the Carolina Hurricanes and NC State Wolfpack football. I have attended tons of games home and away. I have witnessed countless acts of just plain stupidity by fans of my team and fans of the opponent, usually after a really close game, where someone wins because of luck, a call, a spectacular play, or something along those lines. It used to be a fan from the opposing team would come up to you and say "tough one" , "we escaped", "great game", "thanks for coming". I'd be the same way. Recently, and I'll preface that by saying over the last 15 years or so, the words "suck" and "we kicked your ass" seem to have replaced the cordial conversation following the game. I remember being down in Tallahassee in 2003 for the State - Florida State game that went into double OT. FSU escaped. I walked down the ramps with an FSU fan who had to be the nicest guy thanking me for coming, saying how impressed he was with NC State and our fans, and that they were lucky and if the game was played next week, he would think NC State would win. Those days are GONE!

These days the ticket prices are pure insanity. You have in game arena entertainment that goes out of the way to attack opposing FANS. If it were up to me, jumbotrons would only show the score and replays. You have the work SUCK thrown around 200 times. You suck, they suck, Rangers suck, we're kicking your ass, etc. There's never a creative or even classic chant that makes people LAUGH. It's not so much fun as it's gut wrenching rooting for your team. Throw completely incompetent or corrupted officiating into the mix along with gambling. The atmosphere sometimes is closer to a powderkeg rather than a sporting event. It just isn't the same any more.

Last game I went to was the first Rangers - Hurricanes game this season in Raleigh back in January. Only reasons there weren't any incidents were the sheer number of Rangers fans and it was snowing badly so people were more concerned about getting home than antagonizing each other.

The Charlotte FC match in May wasn't that bad but it's basically second tier soccer and the fanbase hasn't really been established.

As someone who grew up watching hockey and football (soccer, not AF) it always absolutely amazed me in the US and Canada, the mixing of the crowd and the amount of oposing fans in rival home buildings. If that were to be the case in a large majority of grounds in association football in the UK - and I dare say most other European countries - the place would be kicking off and a good few would resemble a war zone.

Away fans are kept apart and routinely delayed in leaving for segregation, let alone walking along the same concourse together.

Gotta love the armchair coaches who have suddenly come to the conclusion that Igor doesn't fight through screens hard enough. GTFO!
The guy is arguably, the best goalie in the world, yet, nobody ever taught him that players will try to screen his vision and he should try to "look around them"? That is a bad take. Maybe, just maybe, he can't see shit and his experience tells him to stay square and get to the top of the crease for the best chance for the puck to hit him. On top of that, the Palat goal was a deflection. So a puck moving at 70 - 90 mph, from 50 feet, changes direction 10 feet in front of the goal and a goalie is supposed to be able to react? I suggest some folks gear up and take a few shots from NHLer's. Their perspective will change real quick.

Legalized online ticket scalping made it easy for anyone anywhere to acquire access to seats to any event. It's the reason teams like the VGK will sell out regardless of how bad they become in the next 2-3 seasons

I mean, smaller grounds in football (soccer) you'd have fans of bigger teams in there trying to get seats, or if you happen to live far from your teams stadium and they are coming to the town / city you live. Normally, though, you'd never wear your teams shirt and be cognizant of celebrating too much when a goal went in, unless you had strength in numbers.

Not that it would happen much, but if you were in the opposing end for an Old Firm match (Scottish Derby) wearing team colors and celebrating goals, you would most probably be lynched.

I remember all the soccer riots in the 80s & 90s all too well. People take this shit way too seriously, but as an opposing fan you need to have better situational awareness if you're going to wear your jersey at the game. Not saying that guy at MSG deserved what he got, because he didn't, but if he was talking trash to the dude who punched him, he clearly wasn't reading the room.

Society is severely on edge these days about everything...it's an us vs them mentality in every aspect of life. You're either with us or against us. Mix that with an entitlement culture & you've got a ton of people have no idea how to exercise any self control whatsoever. The dude who smashed that Tampa fan was probably more than a few beers deep & somehow he felt justified taking out his anger on the other dude's face because his team lost a hockey game. However, once again, it's not wise to provoke someone verbally, especially if you don't know what they're capable of.

Personally I'd rather watch on TV. The only idiot in my house is me yelling at my TV for the Refs to get their heads out of their asses, the Rangers to wake up, stop playing soft & shooting the f***ing puck. It provides good entertainment to my patient girlfriend, my horrified cat & a few of my neighbors who wonder where the source of the screaming is coming from. I digress...

Seeing how nice everyone is on NJTransit to fans with different jerseys is the one thing that keeps me from really hating the Devils at all

🤣 - hopefully your GF and cat have a quiet night as we are bringing the series back to MSG for a Game 7. I wouldn't concern yourself about the neighbors, lol.

LGR!
