Benson has NEVER even resembled an NHL player any time he's been brought up, any time he's been in camp or preseason. of course to some point show me exists. Its incumbent on ANY AHL player to show that they have some NHL chops. In hockey history AHLers abound that could never translate their game to bigtime.

Its been 4 seasons since his draft and he's been in 7 regular season contests on a team bereft of bottom 6 wingers. He could be a late bloomer but I'd prefer to trade him then lose him for nothing in the expansion draft.

you're writing him off before you've even seen him clearly. I thought you were quick to write Jones off but here you are. Shall we just trade Broberg too? D+2 season and still no signs of development
If Broberg is 23 and still doesn’t look like he belongs in the NHL then I would question him the same.

The Oilers have been desperate for wingers and every camp Benson seems like he is more than content with being an AHL guy. No hustle, no hustle, no forcing the issue
He might not be that type of player. Don’t think we drafted him to be a 3rd line hustle plug. He’s top 6 or bust. We want his cerebral play making and skill. He’s got skill and scoring ability, what holds him back is his slow boots. The question is, can he get faster?

You do know that Benson is going into his 5th season post draft right?
If a team this desperate for wingers who have shown they are willing to give young forwards a chance, keeps passing on Benson, that might tell you a bunch. I mean if you just look at his stats sure he might look great. But if you watch him play it's very easy to see WHY he probably will never be an NHL player.

I hate that everyone hates Benson for no reason other then he didn’t score 7 goals in the 7 games he’s been called up playing in the 4th line.
Remember how upset this board was when Yamamoto got the call up instead of Benson? Hilarious how people flip their opinions here off nothing.

He's been working on getting faster for what 4 years now? His skating had improved but not close to enough. The NHL is a much faster league than the AHL and he looks relatively slow down there, but he has the skill down there to make up for it. That won't cut it in the NHL

Islands in the stream.
Mother of GOD. If we sign Hyman to 6x7... this place will burn.

I'll mostly just lol given what we paid RNH.

Yeah, I like the in the paint determination of Hyman, but not at the price tag.
But Hyman was arguably the best Leaf in the playoffs and putting together some solid seasons.

For sure he's miles harder to play against than RNH.

Like so much baseless things about the player “no hustle”, “can’t skate”. Guarantee you they don’t watch a lick of him in the AHL or they think 7 games tells you everything about a player.

If someone on this board has connections to somebody in the Oilers organization can you relay a message to Holland?

If McCann can be had it HAS to be before expansion draft, if Seattle gets him they’re not letting him go.

It is kind of crazy they aren't protecting him. He is a solid 3rd line guy. I don't think he is the answer for 3C like some people are stating though. He was playing wing more than C last year. Although he did play mostly C in 2019-20 and 2018-19. But he is a solid 13-18 goals/year guy in the middle of his career (353 GP). He makes $2.9 and is a RFA, so will need to have a QO around 3.25 or so I think. Basically he is a more useful Kassian after he signs his next deal. I can't imagine that Seattle won't take him, and this is certainly a player I would protect over Archie or Kassian on our team, if a trade could be worked out (picks/prospects kind of thing).

I wonder if Curtis Stock drops any free agency bombs this year. He was the second media member (behind Principe) to say Lucic to Edmonton was done a few days before July 1, 2016.
