Hajek counts as a prospect thread![]()
Just outta curiosity...how many times have you seen rykov play?Mark my words Lib Hajek will look night and day better at the NHL level vs the AHL level.
We’ve got a true log jam at left D because Iggy Rykov is the real deal he’s closer to Mcdonagh than Hajek imo and he’s coming shortly.

I ask that because I've seen him once and he looks like a 3rd pair d to me...but my sample size is tiny.

I don't know. I could see Rykov stay another year in Sochi. He has had 1 full season playing top-pair duties in the KHL.
It actually might be best for us as well. I can’t see him coming over to play in the A and with our log jam it lets him develop another year and pushes the decisions back. I know we want control of the player but if he could sign a 1 year deal to stay there I might actually prefer it.
**** control. Development is key. And the rights do not expire as long as he's in the KHL
Hes going to make the jump over with the other Russians.
If hes NHL ready and there is a log jam, they need to be prepared to use some of the older guys as extras.

As long as the rights don’t expire, I’m ok with it. A full season of Rykov playing like this with Sochi isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all. I don’t think I’d mind it. Especially with Staal, Shattenkirk and Smith being done after the 2021 season. There’s no real rush.
Yeah, so winning isnt "everything". I get it.Yeah, there’s a big difference between developing players and putting together a winning team at the AHL level. People forget they won the Calder cup in 2000, but there was little to no player development with that team.
Is he burdened with helping Pionk? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? OMG, help us dear Lord.Hartford was preparing him for this
At this point......do whatever is BEST for the player development. Whether it is in the KHL, AHL or friggin Thailand.......whatever and wherever he will get significant playing time and against formidable opponents. Just my thoughts. It actually might be best for us as well. I can’t see him coming over to play in the A and with our log jam it lets him develop another year and pushes the decisions back. Exposing him or any other player ISN'T always a good thing. I get what you are saying......give him a chance to adapt, but I think that decision should be on an individual basis. It could come down to what "that player" prefers to do (and should be considered) but most probably what MGMT. thinks is best for him (I suppose they have the authority to decide that FOR him, right?)He's going to be 22 in April. I'd prefer to have him come over and if he struggles get top-pairing AHL ice time for 20 games and then make his way up to the NHL sooner rather than later. It's not that he won't learn more in the KHL, it's about the ability to reward good play with NHL time and to expose him to the North American pro game.
