  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
We hope he has what all the others have struggled with. He can play defense. Consistent, reliable work horse that can move the puck

Wonder how the pairings may look.

Praying that he doesn’t get put with Pionk.

Staal-Ada
Hajek-Shatty
Skjei-Pionk

I have a feeling he may play with Pionk

Reports from Hartford aside, he looked great in pre-season and probably would of started on the NHL roster if we never had such a backlog of D depth.

I'm glad that we'll get a look at him at this level, even if it quickly becomes clear that he has a ways to go. Excellent learning experience for him as well.

If he's any good can we please call him and his partner the Money pair?

Looking forward to seeing him get in an NHL game. It's not like the Rangers are icing a defense that is exactly hard to crack.

I don't think this is anything more than the Rangers coaching staff and management wanting to take a real look at where this player--who is one of our most important prospects--is. It should also be good for Hajek--will give him an idea of the pace of the game at the NHL level which should benefit him over the off season and help him prepare for next season.

So I don't really see in this the coaching staff's bias towards this guy or animus towards that---that some posters seem to see or want to anyway. I suspect in any case that Hajek has played left side almost entirely this year and if that is so it would be stupid to throw him over on the right. The coaching staff will be looking to put him in situations where they feel he's likely to be most successful---keeping in mind he's a 20 year old kid playing his first professional season.

Also I think the Rangers are fine playing Smith at wing and maybe Claesson is still having issues.

Hajek represents the future. The Rangers are rebuilding. Let's see what the young man can do. There is no future in nearly all of the defenseman on this team. Bring up Lindgren too.

concur, only w/caveat playing no more than 9 games each, do not burn a yr of elc

hopefully we can repurpose Skjei, and dump Smith.
RB and I do not agree on each and every single item, but we are being proven right about need to move the vets and build w/youth

Se have room up front, throw Shatty on the 4th line opposite Smith. Staal can center them.

I don't think he was as bad in Hartford as he appeared. And I think his relative struggles and the losing environment just dragged on him. I'm optimistic that a call up will help him.

(I want Lindgren up for good, but this is still okay in my book)

Also can't underestimate that the coaching at the NHL level is usually significantly better than what's found in the lower levels. There might be stuff he's been doing wrong that will be addressed here whereas it might have been an oversight over there. We all know he's got plenty of talent, so I'm going to be optimistic

I hear you on this, but it's hard to fault people.

He was sold as THE guy with the trade. Puff pieces of how Gorton wanted him so badly and victoriously got him from Tampa! Huge coup.

After a year, it's kinda shifting to hes A guy. Which maybe was the right projection all along. But most people aren't following prospects that closely, especially other teams, so its tough

I think that was Larry's fault and I disagreed with him at the time.

But it does speak to a bigger challenge we're going to have as a board throughout this process. There's a tendency to elevate people over what's reasonably fair.

We do it with roster players and and prospects alike.

If they're a 15 goal scorer, we push the expectation into the 20 goal range. If they're good for around 20, we push it to 25.

With prospects, if they're second pairing prospects, we push the enevlope and say, "but they coouuuuuld be a first pairing guy." If they're a second line forward, we push them closer to that first line expectation.

And the weird thing is, when we actually have one, we tend to resist and hedge our bets. "McD's not a true number one defenseman, he's just our top defenseman," or the whole Zibanejad conversations.

It's almost like the guys who aren't as likely to be the higher end players are the ones we want to be, and the one's who become those players are the ones we didn't want to reach that level.

People are going to drive themselves crazy micro-analyzing every move in this rebuild. There are going to be misses and there are going to be surprises. At least half of the players taken or acquired are more than likely not going to be a part of the finished product. If you don’t have the understanding or patience for that result, you are going to be disappointed.

Kind of like newspapers have to be careful to maintain accuracy while all trying to be the first to break news, we have to be careful that we don't become so fanatical about being able to say we were one of the first people to be on-board with [Insert Player Name].

I may be in the minority, but I honestly didn't think he was all that bad.
