Why does he seem better in the NHL than A
he also looked really good in the preseason? I think it was preseason anyway lol

This is a myth because people don't want to admit that they crapped on him only due to his lack of stats there. I kept watching him, trying to find his struggles and I couldn't except for the fact that early in the year he played stick defense instead of body defense too much. He was doing well in Hartford, he just didn't even try to score because this was a year to learn pro defense for him.

He REALLY reminds me of Stralman. Similar skating style, size and playing style. He uses his skating to escape a forecheck and make a good first pass out of the zone. He's got some things to work on, for sure, but his ability to remain calm and beat that first forechecker is going to lead to him being a NHL defenseman for a long time.

Yeah, but it's easier to just call people names and stuff than it is to actually watch the player.

His struggles wasn't just him not scoring, he's been legit not good for Hartford. I even defended his lack of production earlier in the season, that's definitely not why i'm saying he's been Hartfords worst regular D-man, which he has.

I've watched more Hartford then most people in this thread and i've taken a Deep dive into the numbers, Hajek wasn't good for Hartford. I'm super happy he's had a great start in the NHL, hope he keeps it up, that doesn't change the fact he had a rough season in the AHL though.

Looks so smooth out there. I think it was telling to hear Hank's comments early on about him. Lundqvist genuinely seemed impressed about his game.

I definitely think he struggled more as the season wore on, kind of in sync with the rest of the team. I do believe someone like Brandon Crawley was worse (and his production was a mirage), and that Gilmour, in terms of making defensive mistakes was worse (although Gilmour brings more to the table in general).

He was having a somewhat disappointing rookie season, for sure. I hesitate to call it bad, outright, but it wasn't good by any means.

That's just my "eye test" opinion. Of course I haven't seen the advanced stats, which I know you have. So I agree with the general assessment, I'm just maybe not quite as down on how Hajek played.

It’s been said for consistently, for at least two years running, that we can’t inherently judge the kids by their Hartford offensive numbers — especially the defenseman.

And it’ll probably be said repeatedly in the future as the next crop comes along.

I have not seen one Hartford game, I trust your opinion because as we see similar things with regard to the Rangers. So it's funny that Hajek gets called up and plays much better with the better players. Then again McD and Kreider had their own issues with the less skilled league. It's still not usual that a player playing mediocre in a lower level can handle himself adequately or better in a much higher level.

Hartford is really a shit-show we all know it to be and the Rangers need to rethink and retool their minor league team from that aspect, get it more of a Rangers type of atmosphere. It really is odd that even though it's such a crappy team that Hartford has developed quite a few NHL players. I just would prefer a better culture. It's just so very odd to me. I just wonder if the players developed in spite of the state of Hartford and that maybe if the minor league team was better that some of the development curves might be different either quicker/better.....who knows.

I think we just have to come to a realization that Hartford is currently a shitshow and basically the Rangers's version of the Las Vegas 51s. We can't really judge much of anything at that level other than some of the basics.

I like how he's been thrown into the fire. None of this 10 minute nonsense. Averaging 17 minutes, playing short-handed and OT. He's been solid so far. Definitely not out of place for a young rookie.
Let's be honest. He looks pretty f***ing good. If his play continues, he is clearly a NHL defenseman. The only question will be what his peak is.

On the radio last night, they were talking about him being exposed for the expansion draft if he plays too many games this year. Is that actually the case? Apologies if this should be clear, I can't keep all the expansion stuff straight with young players. As good as he's looked so far and as much as staying up seems the next logical step for his development, I'd hate to have to protect him if we could avoid it by limiting his games for the rest of this largely meaningless year.

I see a steady, not particularly flashy player.

I'll be very happy if he can be a solid, minute-eating, second pair defenseman.

That is what I wanted out of him and what I expected. He could be able to be a 2/3 if he hits his peak. I can see him being a fairly high-end second pairing guy

Again, this sounds identical to Stralman. Identical. And when Stralman was at his peak his floor was a Top 4 defenseman. Some nights he played like a 2/3.

Hajek is just very steady (as you said Edge) and calming out there.
