The Rangers and Quinn screwed this one up by not giving him at least 10-15 games with decent wingers and second PP time
Then at least you would have given him a slight chance ,,,
Now he is worth basically nothing and a wasted pick

You're probably not the only one, but all it takes is a couple of GMs to think otherwise to get a decent deal. We'll see. I certainly won't be surprised if it's crap for crap, but maybe there's a Nylander deal somewhere out there.

with his book being what it is and his body of work (stats) so far being so hard to look at and now his odd behavior, i worry that the kid has created some very serious headwinds to any NHL career.

Yeah, blame Quinn for Andersson being a crap player who hasn't looked all that good since he was drafted.

How is a kid who can barely skate, sulked when sent down, and now left his club a sweetener? Lias is damaged goods. It is what it is. The biggest thing is he left. Shows character issues just the wrong kind.

When did he sulk? Find me a quote from someone suggesting he was sulking.

There was no sulking. Not after 20, 40, 60, or 74 games in Hartford.

And this nonsense about him not being able that skate is getting old. He’s not a great skater but he can skate.

There were *many* reports from Pack observers that he looked to be sulking on the ice in HFD not just this year, but last as well.

Don't recall him ever earning time beyond what he got.

What a f***in' nightmare mess of a scenario this all is.

The unsolved mystery will always be:

What happened in between Lias' fantastic preseason and howdys mediocre one that merited howdy getting the better shot out of camp?

I think he is skilled enough to put up a PPG in the AHL like he did when he started with 12 in 12. The problem is mental with him, and whatever is going on between his ears prevents him from producing. Even if we're not talking a literal point per game, he absolutely has the talent to have a season like Steven Fogarty did last year: 21/31/52 in 66, 50 PIM. Andersson could do that if he actually decided to dedicate himself to playing hard and exerting maximum effort.

Alas, it won't happen, because he has decided he's too good to be down there or whatever.

I agree it is mental with Lias. It is all over his face he doesn't want to be in Hartford. Who does? I have lived near Hartford just about my whole life ( New Haven) this place sucks. But, that would motivate me to get better to get out of here. He lacks motivation, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. But, he also just doesn't have the foot speed to play today's game. His lack of speed and elusiveness really detracts him from taking that leap forward. When Filip Chytil was here you could tell (I'm about the eye test) he wasn't staying. He looked motivated. You could see the fire in his eyes. You could see the interaction with the coaching staff. Lias jumps on skates around. Jumps off.

I’ve been asking this for a long ass time man.

I mean, you're not wrong, here. I don't see a single TRUE NHL-level skill in him. I see a bunch of AAAA level skills. Sometimes those guys who can do everything at a AAAA level can make it.

Make it? He was drafted seventh overall. He should be able to be at least a staple in a lineup if drafted seventh.

i cant be the only one who thinks this kid lacks legit NHL skills.

those skills wont magically appear elsewhere just bc he changes sweaters.

every player has a "book".

chads books says hes slow. at everything he does. and slow my friends doesnt work well in any sport.

and now a new chapter in his book. attitude.

i see bad things here. bad pick. bad player. bad ending. crap for crap = crap

hope im wrong.

You are not alone.

Of course he should be. Whether he can or will be able to is the question.

Obviously will not be here. I honestly think he will flame out. He does everything slow. He needs to play on European surface. I have watched him play at least 25 or so games over the past two years. He doesn't have one skill you see that jumps out at you. Chytil does. Hajek does. Lindgren does.

Share some of those reports when you have a moment bud. I missed them.
Yeah, nah. What you’re actually doing is (snidely) saying you think I’m full of shit, and are daring me to prove otherwise. Frankly, I’ve got better things to do with my time.

My dude, you’re a frequent enough poster that you should’ve seen those reports overt the months simply by following the HFD/Lias discussions in real time. But if you really do want to find them, you can go ahead and search the last couple HFD threads yourself.

(Heck, even @Amazing Kreiderman, who is one of Lias’s biggest supporters, has commented on the fact that he has visibly not reacted well to his last two demotions.)

How many Pack games have you attended recently? You can read a face and tell when someone is sulking.

At least you have decent Pizza.

Yes. The pizza here is great. Other than that... Blah, stuck up Yalies. I miss the days of the New Haven Coliseum. Although I was a kid when the AHL was here it was great to go to. At least there is Bridgeport and Hartford.

I somewhat agree with this. Lias performed well at every level, including the AHL, prior to this season. Keep in mind he was 19/20 the past two seasons and he still showed quite good promise as essentially a teenager in the A. I’m not convinced that his play in the AHL this year is an indicator of ability as opposed to attitude.

I’m not at all opposed to the notion that Andersson doesn’t have the skills to be an impactful player and that it wouldn’t have made a difference where he played but after investing one of the highest picks our franchise has ever had in him, I feel we should have tried him in a variety of roles up and down the lineup. We‘ll ever know if he could have ended up a strong complimentary winger who can work well on the cycle and clean up around the net because we never looked at him there. We looked at him in one role.

We had nothing to lose by trying him in various roles, whether he “earned” it or not. We do stand to lose the investment we made in him at #7 now. If we’d tried him in other places throughout the lineup we could at least then say we gave him every opportunity to succeed and the failure is entirely upon him. We could also see whether his attitude is that of a petulant brat or that of someone who doesn’t see a future where he is. If the only role we will ever try him in is that of a 4th line center with minimal ice time and poor linemates, I understand wanting out. If we’d tried him up and down the lineup and he’d still wanted out, we could place the entire blame on his attitude. On the other hand, if he saw that there was a chance he could eventually play with talent or be tried in different roles, maybe he’d have quietly gone back down and worked to improve in order to “earn” future opportunities.

Because of Quinn’s unwillingness to try him anywhere we’ll never have answers to any of these questions and we will have the sunk cost of the high pick. In the end, it is what it is. Plenty of blame can be placed on Lias, but we wouldn’t be having any of these debates and hypothetical conversations if he’d been given a look anywhere else in the lineup.

I saw one thing where Lias was upset at Quinn and he thought he was better than Howden, but I didn’t read any reports that he was sulking in Hartford. I don’t think you’re full of ****. It was an honest question.

You can see it all over his face and body language. He is a frustrated kid who has now been caught up to in skill level. He appears to be frustrated and sulking. You can see it clear as day. Especially since his last demotion. Lias checked out.

Considering the crop drafted behind him, it's not as big a loss as some are making it out to be.
