Prospect Info: Liam Ohgren LW, 19th Overall, 2022 NHL Draft

Just catching the latest Iowa game and Ohgren is killing it - his release so quick, its heavy, and he loves to shoot. And its got an really sneaky release - he's doesn't need to wind up so you never know when or where he's going to shoot. It keeps creating rebounds.

How is he down there at creating offense for his teammates (not off rebounds)?

You'd probably have to ask @Jbcraig1883 since its probably only my 2nd viewing of Ohgren in the AHL but my initial impression is that he's fine.

He is a meat and potatoes type of player - simple, grinding, good top speed, strong. Kind of like Ryan Hartman, but you minus the pest element and replace it with a deceptive shot and a love to shoot. He would pair well with playmakers like Rossi, Boldy. He would also pair well with Foligno but it wouldn't push him to his offensive ceiling.

That's why I'm happy he's in the AHL, if he stayed up he would have developed into a fine 3rd liner but he can be more than that if he's giving the opportunity to explore his offensive side with more ice time in a top six role.

I agree with this - especially the last paragraph. He is physically capable of playing in the NHL but the minutes he is getting in Iowa may allow him to develop into that top 6 winger. With his puck protection and shot, he can become an effective second line winger if he keeps it simple and doesn't try to dangle too much or carry the puck. He doesn't have the stick handling or playmaking some others have but what he does have he does pretty good. I could very well be wrong but he doesn't seem like an east/west player going in and out of traffic and entering the zone. Seems more of a north/south player who is strong and has underrated shot.

He had a really good game last night - his shot is heavy with a great release. It allowed Clarke to get a couple of easy goals because of the juicy rebounds (as seen in one of the clips CT posted).

If he stays in MN over the summer and gets a little faster/stronger, I think he will be a fixture 2/3rd line winger next year. In all, I like him a lot more now than I did before because he's playing within himself and not trying to be something he's not.

3 assists yesterday, third star of the game.
68 shots in 23 games this season. They won 5-0 vs Reign. Meeting the same team again sunday.
