3 Goals & 2 Assist in 4 Games in the playoffs. Top team scorer. The team is in the semis.

So, do we want Djurgarden to be promoted so Ohgren can play against top competition next year in the SHL, or want them to stay down so he is more likely to come over to Iowa?

I, personally, would be surprised if he's not in Iowa regardless. Though that raises a great question, if he's loaned on his ELC, does the year he spent in Sweden use a contract year as if he was in Iowa?

Contract slides, I think. Would be better for his development to play in SHL and mature a bit, get some serios TOI against higher level opponents and put some grown man´s physique on his little boy´s frame. It is a big step to move to another country, another culture and doing so too early is not always the best thing for everyone.

Biggest thing is about laying the plans out for progression - you want a prospect to feel like they are succeeding and gaining confidence and momentum. In this case, if Djurgarden gets promoted to the SHL, Ohgren gets a bigger offensive role, then captains the Swedish U20 WJC team, its not a bad idea to keep him there.

If he gets the same progression in AHL, also a good option. But judging from their current mediocre form, I probably lean more to SHL. He is still going to be playing against men.

Then I rescind my previous him in Iowa take.

I think Iowa is going to be a good team next year. Rossi will be gone, but they will have an improved Walker, Beckman, and Milne( all of whom have NHL,potential), hopefully Petan back. Wallstedt on the back end, and an improving ROR, Hunt,Lambos, S Jo, Spacek.
Adding Ohgren to that mix would be nice. Bankier, too. Sprinkle in the right vets and you’ve got an interesting team.

Caught the tail end of Guerin on KFAN with Russo tonight and he said Ohgren will stay in Sweden but said they haven’t decided what will be the best with Yurov. It was a tone thing but sounded like they aren’t happy with how he’s being handled. Billy didn’t hesitate in saying Ohgren will still be in Sweden though..

10 NHL games in a season is all that really matters for an ELC slide year. Play 10 games and the slide year is burned. Play under 10 NHL games and the contract slides. It doesn't matter what "lesser" league (CHL, AHL, Euro leagues, etc.) the player is in.

If a player isn't eligible for a slide year (over 20) then the year will be used if he's in the NHL, AHL, ECHL, or loaned to another league.

Snips from capfriendly FAQ

What is an Entry Level Slide?

If a player who is signed to an entry-level contract and is 18 or 19 years of age (as of September 15 of the signing year), does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs; AHL games do not count), their contract is considered to ‘slide’, or extend, by one year.
An exception to this rule is that if the player is 19 on September 15 of the first year of their contract, and turns 20 between September 16 and December 31, their contract does not slide.
Signing bonuses do not slide, and are paid to the player regardless of a slide, this causes the annual average of the players contract to change, and therefore the cap hit decreases for this player.

There is a big difference between Ohgren and Yurov. Ohgren is under a contract with the Wild. So MN determines where he goes.

Yurov (Guskov and Marat K too) is under contact in a league that doesn't have a transfer agreement with the NHL. So MN currently has 0 control over what happens with him.

I literally just said what Guerin said, nothing more. It was more about the fact that he’s planning for Ohgren to be over there than the Yurov bit, but thought I’d relay.

He isn't under contract in the KHL next year, yet, so as long as Yurov is willing to listen to whatever the Wild recommend, they effectively have control. I don't know if that's truly the situation, but it sounds to me like Guerin thinks it is.

I have to imagine Yurov didn't like sitting on the bench any more than the Wild liked it. It'll be interesting to see what he does.
