I guess it's a matter of taste. I found True Detective's 1st season to be amongst the best series, ever.

For sure. I admit it, I seem to be in a vast minority of those who didn't feel TD Season 1 was all that. I'd elaborate on what I didn't like about it specifically (I have my reasons), but don't want to get into another flame-war I did on some other messages boards over this.

That's your opinion that I disagree with. Both shows are perfectly comparable in my eyes as far as the amount of entertainment extracted goes.

Not sure how you can compare a 50 episode show to an 8 one.
If you`re talking about personal entertainment then okay I guess but to me it`s comparing apples and oranges. You won`t compare a comedy to a drama, would you?

Well, I only mentioned the amount of enjoyment in my OP, so, of course, that was the only metric in question. I would certainly apply it to different genres of TV shows as I believe it's an absolute one.

EDIT: Although, to be fair, when I said "Same with Game of Thrones." I meant to follow up my previous statement on how "...there are better shows out there".

All good, I was just curious on how you make a link between both shows.

... Hesitating between Blazing Saddles and Top Secret.
REAL First World Problem.

Taylor Kitsch being gay seemed like such a terrible point. You could see from a mile away that he was going to get blackmailed and would get him in trouble. Typical..

I mean, was the whole paternity issue important to the character build up at all?..They could have eliminated the boy completely. Would have changed nothing.

Too bad, it had potential. Major fail in my eyes.

after watching it twice, they REALLY could of left taylor kitsch character completely out.. they could of just molded it into colin farrells character really, there was just NO need for him in the overall scheme of things...

just not sure why they had so many characters this season.

i liked franks story for the most part, i think he should of survived as well. but you could see ray not making it from miles away, and its just as well. he was "ok"

So many little side stories went nowhere. Farrel gets attacked by bird head... wtf was that about? Seriously the explanation is crammed into the final episode in a convoluted speech... what was the point of having that happen in the first place?

I don't mean to sound negative but they really did miss the mark this season. It wasn't terrible but I wouldn't be coming back for season 3 if it weren't for season one. I'll give it another crack but if they blow it again I'm done with this show.

Ya, really, they could have just focused on one of those characters. One of Vaughn, McAdams, Kitsch or Farrell. They showed enough of them for us to realize there could be some big baggage behind each character, but in an 8 episode show of 1h...impossible to really dig into them. I'm very disappointed.

Blazing saddles all the way.

Hummm...
Top Secret is funnier as a whole (really NO down comedy time, at all). I do admit that Blazing Saddles has the best ensemble of fourth-wall jokes, and that the last 10 minutes are really, but really :amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed::amazed:.

I really like how crude it is. Top Secret COULD be made in this day and age (I doubt it, the days of the great comedy appear to be long gone), but there's absolutely no way somebody could make Blazing Saddles in 2015.

Just watched Ex Machida. I expected a lot more. Decent movie, not bad but very overrated imo.

Rare to watch a movie where's there's zero emotional connection with the audience but they managed to do it, maybe a better script or different actors might of helped, just found their interactions painful to watch to the point I really couldn't care what happened to any of the characters in the end

Interesting concept but seemed like someone had a great idea for an ending of a movie and slapped something together to try and get there, as opposed to a movie like Gone Girl where someone had a great idea for a movie but was missing the ending piece and slapped something together on the fly

I stopped watching True Detective season 2 after the first episode. Was it as terrible and disappointing as I had imagined it would be?

Can't understand all the buzz around Mission Impossible... I mean, 4 stars in LaPresse? Some good visual effects but really, that storyline is in ''been there done that'' category.

At least it didn't match Jurassic World's mediocrity.

Nothing in season 2 came close to this scene.

Awesome scene. Some funny scenes between the two characters too :

I actually found season 2 to be on par with season 1 overall. I wasn't a big fan of either. Both worth watching, but way better shows out there.

Same with Game of Thrones.

Just something about HBO that doesn't hit home with me. I much prefer AMC's show line-up myself.

HBO shows are like 10 hours movies. There's no introduction and conclusion for each episode. There's a long introduction at the beginning of the season (2-3 episodes) and a long conclusion (2-3 episode). Usually something happens in the 3rd or 4th episode and things get going for a while until it ends.

Some people don't like it but it doesn't make it wrong.

It's best to watch HBO shows in 2-3 sitting imo. Wait for the end of the season and buy the blu-ray and watch all episodes in 3 nights. You'll get the conclusion and initiating event in the first night. The action and crisis in the 2nd night and the conclusion in the 3rd night. It's basically 3 acts textbook writing.

What allegory? Was there an after-credits scene?

Damn! I knew I should have stayed until the end!

:sarcasm:

Ex Machina is a good movie.

But people expected too much from it and also try to read too much into Garland's script. Alex Garland gonna be Alex Garland. He is a good writer and i liked all his films (28 days later, Sunshine and Ex Machine) but he is not a great writer.

There's nothing profound about what he writes.

After Sunshine (slight disappointment) i decided to not expect too much out of his scripts. On the surface his scripts look awesome but there's not much meat around the bones. I would say he writes good pop fiction. Nothing bad about it. It's far better than most of the garbage coming out of Hollywood like Transformer.

I would compare Garland to Joss Whedon. Guilty pleasure but i can understand why some people don't like.
