There's really no one word for Alien in French. I can't think of one.

There used to be. :sarcasm:

alien (adj.)

c. 1300, "strange, foreign," from Old French alien "strange, foreign;" as a noun, "an alien, stranger, foreigner," from Latin alienus "of or belonging to another, not one's own, foreign, strange," also, as a noun, "a stranger, foreigner," adjective from alius (adv.) "another, other, different," fro

That makes sense, there is a verb in French, aliéner. (Alienate)

Tenet : 7.8/10 Pretty good. First time back to the cinema for me since february. Mostly well done but like Inception there is some part harder to understand. I think that's the 1st good movie involving Pattinson. Cosmopolis, the lighthouse and Good time were dreadful.

The great (season 1): 7.5/10 good first season.

doom patrol (season 2): 7.3/10

About Alien, I'm always annoyed when they use too much dramatic license when they translate titles, like why not stick to original title as much only in the other language. But for whatever reasons "Le 8ème Passager" was such a nice title, carrying a certain mystery around it. "Jaws" in French is "Les Dents de La Mer" which is again a good creative license cause "Machoire" would have sucked. Although the traduction of Les Dents de la Mer in english is "The Teeth of the Sea" and this would goofy as Hell in english. It could have been "Dents La Mer". A bad overdramatized one was "Piège de Crystal" for Diehard which means Crystal Trap(WTF). Although I cannot imagine a direct translation TUEDUR.

Actually, it should've been Dure à tuer, or Difficile à tuer, or the actual French expression "Dure à Cuire" which is the closest in French to the true meaning of DieHard.

Die Harder could've been Vraiment Dure à Cuire.

Most of those French titles from movies before the turn of the millenium were chosen in France, with a few exceptions.

Your review of Tenet is in line with what some family in the UK told me. Good, but not great and confusing at times. Still, my must see movie personally... whenever I get the chance. It's not playing here so I'll need to wait for on-demand.

The clothes both men and women are wearing in the Perry Mason series are very nice looking. Small collared shirts, nice suits no f***ing V fashion. The hippies destroyed the nice clothing with their no bras and bell bottom clothes. Fashion wise the late 50s were great. There are also a lot of good looking female actresses in Perry Mason, good at acting as well.

Dur à Tuer would have been perfect. In a sense though "Diehard" doesn't really mean that you're hard to kill so much as it's an expression that means that you are dedicated. Like say I'm a diehard fan of Game of Thrones. Although for the movie it had two meanings, maybe, hard to kill and dedicated. There is also the fact that the plot of the movie is about terrorists(before we know that they are thieves) and diehard is a word used for political zealots sometime. For that meaning, it would have worked maybe more for the sequel given that they really were political zealots in that.

It is true that we were stuck with titles coming from France at some point although "Clanche" for the movie "Speed" was very much Quebecois. So much so that for a while I had no idea what it meant. I thought it was when you have a "clanche" on your car or something of mechanic origin. I said that to a friend saying " what a weird title, I don't get it". He said "it means clanche. You know when you clanche, you want to go faster". I was like wow, that is not very subtle or refined. lol

Just saw that series 4 of the BBC crime TV series Strike (I believe it's called CB Strike here in Canada and US) is currently airing. I enjoyed the previous 3 series which were only 7 episodes total so I'll take a look at this new 4 episode series 4 soon.

Saw the trailer for the new batman. He might pull it off. Thankfully his career is still afloat after that dreadful. He is a lot more interesting than that terrible character.

Said it earlier, but I thought the trailer looked good but when Batman beat the crap out of that punk so brutally, I was sold.

That said, I am not sure I like Pattinson’s emo look for Bruce Wayne, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I thought I was looking at a trailer of a remake of The Crow

Crabby old-man moment: What the hell do we need another remake of Batman for? Spoiler alert -- his parents get killed and he becomes a crimefighter who dresses up as a flying rat and is always in a bad mood.

What does it say about this generation that their classic stories come from comic books? Wanna retell the same story again and again -- try reading Shakespeare. Alternatively, try coming up with a new idea.

Time for my porridge and a nap...

LOL, didn’t think of that. On that note, I think the reboot is back on track with Mamoa.
