OT: Let's Remember Some Guys

Has Normand Rocheforte been mentioned?
Le Roche....The Rock for those not fluent.

Highly underrated D man whose knees were worse than Mickey Mantle's by the time he got here. We really could've used him during the '92 playoffs.

he was decent middle pair D
that was late in the Espo revolving-door GM era

sad they traded Poddubny,
... who knew Jason would eventually become "Lafreniere 1.0"
I recall being shocked when I read about that trade. Walt was such an overachiever here & huge fan favorite. RIP....gone way too young.

6 NYR games, 3 Pack seasons, incl 1 wearing C
drafted by Flames, but after 4 seasons at UMaine, signed w NYR

Rico Fata. Unbelievably fast and nothing else. Jamie Lundmark, still don't understand why he became such a bust. Matthieu Schneider, Slats let him leave for nothing and instead gave Vladamir Malakhov a 4 year deal.
I remember being at a NYR Draft Party and Lundmark was one of the Rangers on hand...and then he got traded during the draft! That was just cold.

I also remember the high hopes for Jozef Balej who Slats got for Kovalev in the great purge before the Crosby draft.

And just for the sake of seeing his name again...Per Djoos.

The Great Purge was the pinnacle of Dark Ages Rangers ineptitude. Sather finally waves the white flag, realizing he can't keep bringing in mercenaries & acquires a shitload of draft capital. Yet we only walk away with Ryan Callahan when all is said & done. The icing on the cake was getting royally screwed in the rigged Cindy lottery the following year. Hockey is different here.

The 04 trades were just so bad. Immonen/Kondratiev for Leetch and never gave either a real look, and didn't bring Leetch back for 05-06 when their biggest need was an offensive dman. Then Kovalev for Balej who also didn't get a real look. Then Balej for Sergei Fedorov's brother in 06 who also didn't get a look.

Here's a list of dark ages "prospects" from the dark ages. They loaded up on these guys either through drafts, trades, or signings and none really amounted to anything. I remember all of these getting "hyped" on MSG at some point:
-Daniel Goneau
-Christian Dube
-Johan Lindbom
-Manny Malhotra
-Ronnie Sundin
-Johan Witehall
-Filip Novak
-Petr Smrek
-Mike Mottau
-Pavel Brendl
-Jamie Lundmark
-Barret Heisten
-Rico Fata
-Hugh Jessiman
-Ivan Baranka
-Kenny Roche
-Jozef Balej
-Jarkko Immonen
-Maxim Kondratiev
-Thomas Pock
-Bryce Lampman

I'm still pissed they moved Leetch at the 04 deadline then didn't IMMEDIATELY try to bring him back as an FA. He would've filled the 06 team's biggest need, and we wouldn't have had to get end-of-career Sandis Ozolinsh to fill that need instead.

wow
in pro or major junior most of last 43 years!

Shocked he was never given a chance to be a head coach

Not a ten worst trade but terrible
Guy was a zero
Considering what Hags had done prior, and has since, shoulda done better

Rangers do what they do, wait to long and then settle. Happened with Buchnevich as well.

Didnt Sather have to get a different hockey stick for Fata or am I thinking Balej to help their skills??

Don't forget the great Jan Mertzig and Chad Wiseman, as well as the stud 2nd rounder Lee Falardeau in 2002.

MSG really does/did pump tires on players that couldnt hold air. Thomas Pock was one. He played well in a few games at the end of 03-04 and they made it like he was going to be a legit Top 4 D that following season. Josh Green was another that came back from the purge that was supposed to be a "glue guy" on the 3rd or 4th line.

Colin Forbes was another guy. Great for the Flyers got dealt here and stunk. Adam Hall was good everywhere else but here. Bolts, Predators etc

Joe Cirella was traded to the Rangers for Aaron Miller and the pick that would be Bill Lindsay.

He was ok for the Rangers for a few years as a bottom pair guy.

The Rangers really made over their D when Neil Smith came in. It was basically Leetch, Patrick, and a revolving door of veterans (Petit, Hardy, Rochefort, Shaw, Bloomberg.....even Ron Greschner was still around until 1990).

Once they got Beuk and Wells it was pretty solid. Then came Zubov/Lowe/Karpotsev and it was solidified.
