Also, one thing that always seemed weird to me--Dino Ciccarelli. He was easily one of the greatest players of my childhood and of all the guys we reminisce about from that era, I never hear Dino mentioned. Over 1200 games, 1200 points, over 1400 PIM. Despite being a generously listed 5'10". I know he had the wiener exposure thing and then he tried to kill Luke Richardson, but the guy was an amazing player.

I always thought of him more as a Minnesota North Star than a Ranger. I remember the little stuffed dinosaurs the fans there used to wave after he scored.

Mario would collapse lay on the ice like he'd been poleaxed sometimes. Just embellishing how he was hurt for all it was worth and he was a really really big guy but also maybe the biggest baby I've ever seen in the NHL........and he'd pick on little guys. I remember Bobby Gould who was a little guy and who rarely fought beating the **** out of him....and he laid down after that too. He'd complain to the media about Jan Erixon checking him too tightly. It wasn't fair..... and Erixon was a very clean player....a guy who just did his job. Nobody lobbied that hard for suspensions back then but the Pens lobbied hard against Graves and it was on the ****ing 7pm national news which was just bull****. He'd taken the padding around the wrists out of his gloves for better flexibility. Well....it was there for a reason. Don't cry about it later. That slash Graves gave him wasn't anything extraordinary for the times. Stuff like that happened several times every frigging game. Really milked that. Basically I think he's an *******.

I remember an early season game in 1987-88 in Pittsburgh (checked, it was the fourth game of the season), Rangers took a 6-5 lead late in the game. WFAN had a commercial about "expanded sports coverage" where all it was, was a jock strap that kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. A bunch of us in school (only thing the Ranger, Devil, and Islander fans ever agreed on), and even my father, thought Maryo might have been a little light in the loafers, shall we speak. Sure enough, Channel 9 runs the ad right before Pittsburgh goes on a power play. I say to my father, Maryo just got excited, he's going to get his hat trick. Sure enough, Maryo scores, game ends 6-6.

I honestly don't know how or why I remember vivid details about things over 30 years ago.

Edge what do you think happened to Lundmark? Was he a victim of circumstances with the organization being a complete mess. Or was his lack of success more on him not putting the work in?

No. That's not his name. Prospal's name isn't Vinny either.

I remember reading somewhere a long time back that a lot of Evgenis or Yevgenis go by John, even in Russia. I think it was in an article about Nabokov. Maybe that trend has passed. But if the goal was to Westernize, wouldn’t it make more sense if they went with Gene? Maybe they did at one time and it corrupted, which happens.

I also seem to remember Prospal saying his family calls him Vinny.. so... idk?

I was poking fun at you anyway.

Oh I know. I just think it's stupid

@Speedtrials Lundmark was the classic case of a guy who wasn't talented enough to be a top 6 player, and not gritty enough or lacked any attribute to be a bottom 6 or role player. He might have made it in today's game as a 4th line center because he wasn't a terrible skater, but in those days speed was pretty much nullified by the traps.

John Namestnikov aka Vlad's dad was in the organization during Muckler's days but was never given a chance.

Dino never played for the Rangers. He was a Rangers nemesis on the Caps though.

Speaking of Dino. He was well hated here as a member of the Caps. Does anyone remember that every time he was on the ice for a stoppage, the organist would start playing “She was just 17” in a reference to his case involving a limo and an underage girl. Savage burn....

I remember that well. Dino being trolled by the MSG music coordinator.

Playing the Sens reminded me of Chris Neil. HATED him, but desperately wanted him to be on the Rangers. Guy was far more than just a pugilist.

Speaking of former nemesis, anyone remember Bryan Marchment?

There are so many that could work.

Back then there was that hair metal Winger song - "Seventeen". Could always go with Stevie Nicks and "Edge of Seventeen".

Lundmark carved himself a pretty decent career in Europe. Read an article recently by a writer who interviewed Lundmark's wife.

Ok thank you makes sense. It just seems like while the jury was out on Brendl, Lundmark seemed like a can't miss.

Yeah he went to play in Austria, a league that (at the top) is completely dominated by North American players. Tons of Canadians in the league.

One last thing on Lundmark, he actually crushed it in the AHL. That was always the killer with him--he'd struggle in the NHL then go down to the AHL and be a 50-60 point guy (or on pace). And he did this for years, really. Not just with us. Although I do remember some panic when he went to Calgary and had a torrid start and a lot of us were afraid he had figured it out. I don't think, in retrospect, there was anything to figure out. He was just a 4A player that didn't have the extra gear.
