In the spirit of remembering some guys, what about remembering some opponents?

Still hate John Druce and what about Dominic Roussel? Mediocre against everyone else, but Roy against the Rangers.

Another one is Peter Zezel. Would torment those 80's teams to no end.

So did Brian Propp & Tim Kerr. Seemed like those two scored in every game we played vs Philly.

A recent one is Blake Comeau.

Kerr was an absolute killer. Parked in front of the goal and scored every game.

HATED those Flyer teams. Dave Brown forever linked to Sandstrom. One of the many reasons McPhee & Orr have a special place in my heart. McPhee for the fight with Tochett in the playoffs. Great fight. And Orr for exercising 25 years of frustration with his knock out of Fedoruk

Jay Wells, most famous for having his face ripped off by Pavel Bure.
Bure was interesting that way. For those that remember, Shane Churla was actually quite a hitter, a heat seeking missle out there during his Dallas days. One day he really clocked Bure and skated away. Bure got up picked up his stick, picked up quite the amount of speed and at some point left his legs and essentially executed a flying cross check to Churla's head.

Not many people remember Tim Kerr was a Ranger for one season, 91-92. His knees were gone by then, but he was still a PP force. 5 of his 7 goals were on the PP, but he was rarely in the lineup.

He absolutely drove Maryo crazy. I think Lemieux compared him to a bad smell that you cannot shake. One of the best defensive forwards ever for the Rangers. Was he a center though?

I remember him as a winger.

Erixon was one of those guys who was a Ranger forever who just missed out on the Cup - along with Patrick and Beezer.

Goyette, Marshall, and their wingmate, Bob Nevin. In an era when lines stayed together for years, they were the Rangers #2 line for the first years of the Francis era. I’ve always had a soft spot for slick passing centers who always had more assists than goals, and that is because of Goyette.

Donnie and Phil came up in the Montreal organization: in years the Habs had a lot of injuries, they played a lot. In years that the Habs were injury free, they didn’t play much. Those mid-60s Habs teams had depth!

Coming to the Rangers was a big break for them. Playing behind the GAG line, they were classy and effective. And Nevin was captain before Hadfield. Great names and, historically important Rangers.

A lot of good names mentioned here. I'll provide some commentary as I lived it (lol).

Tim Kerr-He was left unprotected by the Flyers in the 1991 Expansion Draft (the one where San Jose picked and also the North Stars who "volunteered a decent chunk of their team to San Jose) and the Rangers who were radically changing personnel (more on the below) traded Brian Mullen to San Jose for him. His knees were shot and he was depth. Finished his career in Hartford for the Whalers.

Darren Turcotte-He was a huge part of the late 80s/early 90s Rangers youth movements. Another great pick by Craig Patrick in his final draft of 1986 which for New York sports was just as good as how bad 2018 has been. Had a great wrist shot and had a couple of 30 goal seasons for the Rangers. He was traded in that three way with Chicago and Hartford with James Patrick for Steve Larmer because Keenan hated him. He wasn't soft but he wasn't as gritty enough to be a Keenan guy. He had a knee on knee collision with Steve Yzerman later that year and missed a lot of time. He was never quite the same and while he would play until about 2000 and be the inaugural Nashville captain, never recaptured his goal scoring that he had on the Rangers.

Those late 80s/early 90s Capitals teams with Druce, Pivonka, Iafrate, Langway, etc. were mentioned. I HATED those teams as a kid. Rangers-Capitals even from before 1986 was becoming a huge rivalry. Capitals started building a team in the early 80s and were stacked for many runs. They always fell short, the only time they were close was 1990 when the lost in the ECF to the Bruins. Rangers and Capitals played each other four times in the playoffs in eight years so there was heat and the first three times, the lower seeded team won. After the 1991 series where the Rangers were a one line team because Kissio was hurt and Kevin Miller was traded for Kocur was when Neil Smith lost it and started making major changes. Out were Kissio, Mullen, Nichols, Shepard, Moller, Shaw, and in were rookies Nemchinov/Weight/Amonte, and some guys named Messier, Beukeboom, Wells, and Kerr. Adam Graves who Smith had known from his Detroit days was brought in as a very low key RFA. The compensation was Troy Mallete when Edmonton demanded Rice/Debrusk who would later be used in some other trade we all know about lol.

One more posts on the Swedes:

Niklas Sundstrom-First round pick from 1993 aka the year Roger Neilson was mutinied by Messier and company. He was a high pick and never become a star, but he was a very valuable player for the Rangers and later the Sharks. He had a good career, as a poor man's Jere Lethinen: a defensive forward who could play top 6 and put up 35-40+ points. We all remember the slash by John McLane on him that took him out of the playoffs in 1997. People who hate don't realize that the Rangers won three playoff series with him in his first two years, and the Sharks went to the WCF in 2001 with him on that roster.

Mikeal Samuelson-Rangers got him from San Jose in the Adam Graves trade. Had a pretty good rookie season and a huge sophomore slump, and then was dealt to Pittsburgh for Kovalev's second tenure here. People who say the Rangers gave up on him are wrong. He was not going to succeed as more than a 3rd liner in the clutch and grab era. His game was all about skating and his sudden top 6 play with the Red Wings and later Canucks was all after the lockout. If he was a kid in today's game, he'd be a monster.
