He was such an awesome soldier for us throughout the years. I can't help but be happy for him and his exceptional start with the Oilers. 5 goals and 6 points over his first 5 GP in Edmonton.

I hope he has a couple career years and proves the naysayers wrong that thought he should take peanuts! At 29 years old, I think he can produce at a high level for at least the next 3 seasons as long as he stays healthy.

Good luck Zach!

If he produces come playoffs he'll be an amazing signing

If not than just a good signing

Hyman doesn't look like he'll slow down until his final 2 years of his deal
5 years of 60-80 point production with the potential GOAT of hockey will be well worth it at 5.5M

I said it when they signed him. If he's to McDavid what Kunitz was to Crosby, it will be well worth it. Just a net front veteran, proven capable of playing with good players, that does his job every night, has enough finish that it's worth passing him the puck and will do all the little things, at both ends of the ice, so that McDavid doesn't have to do everything by himself.

The best part is going to be comparing his stats to our elite superstars. I know there is McDavid stat inflation but still going to be funny.

McDavid alone might outproduce JT and Nylander

150 points vs high 140s

Assuming Marner and Matthews bounce back end give 90-100 each, they'll get 125 from Draisaitl and 65 from Hyman.

Three players of their will outproduce our big 4

Okay, so Hyman has 6 points, and is 5th. on the team in points, less than half of McDavid.
Seems pretty typical for Hyman half the points of Matthews and less than half of marner last year.

He's a dutiful foot soldier who scores a proportion of what the big dogs generate and is versatile everywhere. We all know that and appreciate him.

He was a really good soldier for us. He got a little greedy (can't blame him cause it's his life) Priced himself out of town. Wish him the best against everybody but the Leafs. Cap hell casualty. So many things could've been done to prevent losing him but... Sucks but it's time to move on.

I'm sure we could have made the money on the contract work, the problem was signing a 29 year old who takes a lot of hits and has had serious leg injuries the past 3 playoffs to an 8 year deal with a full NMC.

The guy is one ACL tear away from losing his speed and strength on the forecheck, what do you have left when that happens? Netfront PP guy?

Edmonton wins the gamble if that injury doesn't happen before 2024 probably, but it's still a gamble at the end of the day.

Also I thought points don't matter until the playoffs? Or do the rules change when you get swept by the Jets.

Meh. Bunting would probably have 10 points by now if he was playing with McDavid, he has noticeably better offensive instincts.

Apparently 5 goals hot start with McDavid is enough to override his 2 embarrassing playoff losses in a row on a much better team than the Oilers :sarcasm:

This place is comedy.

Hyman was an important player for the Leafs, and his play and effort is being missed. The time and space he created and his ability to win Ozone puck battles generated lots of additional opportunities for his linemates.

He never got the appreciation he deserved as he was often the straw that stirred the Leafs drink. Always showing up and always giving 110% effort.

His absence is noticeable, particularly when you watch the cause and effect of the Matthews line with and without him.

People get the contract restrictions, it’s the “oh we can easily replace him” that’s absurd and frankly shows little appreciation of the game. It’s a net negative he left, that’s just a fact.
