When the CBJ become a Cup contender, Letestu will be a good 3rd line player on that team. Until then, I'm happy to have him on our second line.
...and if he continues to score at a ~50+ point pace several years in a row, I look forward to having discussions with folks insisting that he's still a third liner. :D

I look forward to that day. Candidly, I think this signing was a steal.

I find the discussion of his salary interesting. I wonder how much impact "cost of living" plays into negotiations. Certainly a lot would hinge on the ability of the player to remain in this city.

With the lower cost of living in Columbus, his salary will go a lot further than in many other NHL cities.

Read a great article a while back about how many NBA players are shunning going to California teams because of the high taxation, and high cost of living.

Too bad for Letestu Howson still isn't gmsh- he would have gotten 5 yrs at 4 mill a yr.

Great signing by Jarmo. He's a bargain if he continues to produce; tradeable because of his cap hit if that is necessary and buyout-able if he suddenly sucks (which I doubt will happen)

When I saw this earlier, I thought it was 2yr/$2.5mil per year and was pretty ok with it. Now I see it's $2.5mil total, good grief. What a great deal.

(Presses imaginary "like" button on both posts in agreement)

I like Letestu's play. Glad to see he got his extension.

I think you are dead on and would add this. If I could have a 3rd line of 3 Letestus at $1.25M each, We would have a productive 3 line at a more than fair salary hit.

Two years at 3.5 ??? You are dreaming. Philadelphia will be ready to through virtually unlimited money at Bob. No way he gets signed by us for under $4 million, probably $4.5 million per year.

He's a RFA. So, he can only be signed by us.

CBJBrassard16 has it mostly right. We'll either match or take a boatload of picks. Plus, Philly is already up against next year's cap with their existing commitments (only 19 players). They'll get a little relief from Pronger's contract, but still have some roster spots to fill. Far from "virtually unlimited money."

Flyers fan here..

I highly doubt we will go after Bob, so I don't think there needs to be any worry about that. We gave up to early on him, now you guys are reaping the benefits. :pout:

Haha all jokes aside, I can only see us going after a goalie like Ben Bishop or Jonathon Bernier, assuming we buy-ouy Bryz. (Praying we do)

Good luck to you guys, I'm rooting for the blue jackets in the west. Hopefully you guys make the playoffs, it'd be a lot of fun to watch them play.

Like many, I'm surprised at the number.

He's one point shy of being team leader in points and he settled for a number which is dramatically less than the players whom he is outscoring. Umgarbage ($4.6m), Brassard ($3.2m), Dubinsky ($4.2m), Foligno ($3m), etc. He's settling for about 30 cents on the dollar relative to his teammates based on raw point productivity.

I don't get it. I would've thought that he'd set as a baseline at least a Dorsett number ($1.6m). Actually, no. I'd think $2m would have been a reasonable asking price for him.

Maybe he is happy enough making over a mil a year. Can't really say I'm in the position to criticize that...

from watching it seems like he is one of the more intelligent players on the team- he's really good at anticipating plays and being in the right place at the right time. glad to see there will be more letestu magic to come.

I'm really surprised by the price as well. When something like this happens my brain starts stirring thinking about how this could have happened.

I wonder if Jarmo decided he wanted to move Letestu for a pick (maybe a second rounder) at this deadline, unless the unlikely event that Letestu would agree to a ridiculously cheap-o contract. Jarmo presents the choice, and Letestu thinks he'd rather stay with the Jackets. After his Pittsburgh experience, he cares about sticking with an organization where he'll know he can play a big role and won't become a journeyman, with all the negative effects that can have on family life.

Maybe it's not this, but something is up.
