Like many, I'm surprised at the number.

He's one point shy of being team leader in points and he settled for a number which is dramatically less than the players whom he is outscoring. Umgarbage ($4.6m), Brassard ($3.2m), Dubinsky ($4.2m), Foligno ($3m), etc. He's settling for about 30 cents on the dollar relative to his teammates based on raw point productivity.

I don't get it. I would've thought that he'd set as a baseline at least a Dorsett number ($1.6m). Actually, no. I'd think $2m would have been a reasonable asking price for him.

Wait he's getting out-earned by DJ Minor Penalty?:laugh::laugh:

Maybe he told Jarmo to take a million of AAV and tack it onto Bob's offer

he can be signed by anyone...its up to us to match

Or BOB can just sign in Russia. If he isn't under an NHL contract he's free to do so. That's why I think a $4 million + deal signed soon would make sense before he gets a Vezina and starts fielding KHL offers and RFA offer sheets.

Two years at 3.5 ??? You are dreaming. Philadelphia will be ready to through virtually unlimited money at Bob. No way he gets signed by us for under $4 million, probably $4.5 million per year.

Dude, "unlimited money" equals huge compensation since he's a RFA. They are at the cap already for next season. I think you jumped the shark on this one.

He's a RFA. So, he can only be signed by us.

No, as Fro indicated below. We have the right to match.

Indeed. We aren't going to play him as much as those around here think we are based on a shortened season. 4 - 4.5 as suggested by EDM? Highly doubt it.

At any rate, I'm still surprised at Letestu's contract. Quite pleased.

Never underestimate what Holmgren will do. He will move heaven and earth if he wants someone. I could see him using his amnesty waiver to get rid of Brizg to start.

Let him do that. Then we will just match or take a bunch of his draft picks.

I don't. But he isn't buying out Bryz to offer sheet Bob. That's just idiotic. He would be laughed out the league. Self preservation alone would prevent that.

I don't agree with you about buying out Bryz.

I know we can "match" other offers. But those offers are not going to be $3.5 million for two years type offers. My point is that it is very unlikely that we are going to get Bob on the cheap. After the season he has had, there are going to be teams ready to offer him more than 2 years at $3 million per. Now, if we lock him up before the season is over, that could change. But to lock him up is going to take more than a two year offer.

You didn't read that carefully. I said buy out Bryz to offer sheet Bob. I didn't say that he wouldn't buy out Bryz, although I find that unlikely. Possible because it's the last year of amnesty.

I know we can "match" other offers. But those offers are not going to be $3.5 million for two years type offers.

I understand your point, but it's highly unlikely anyone is going to throw the moon at Bob. Your are correct, no one is going to offer what you suggested. It is too easy to match. Offer sheets are rare. Bob isn't going to get a Weber type of offer sheet. Anything that we won't match, no one is going to offer in the first place.

I never said we were going to get him for 1.75 per. But I highly doubt we are going to spend 4+ on him either. That is the type of idiotic thing Howson would have done.

Now if you want to talk more about it, bump the Bob thread. This is Letestu.

This contract not only saves some money and cap space. This is also a great asset in the negotiations with upcoming RFAs. If you're Calvert or Atkinson you won't dare to ask anything more than 1.5-2 millions now.
Also Bob in the situations where he should take some discount, he can't just go for "all the possible money". Prior to this season Bob just wanted a chance to be a starter in this league. The Jackets gave him the chance, the whole team played to help him to pad his stats. Hopefully Bob realises that and appreciates the team effort. I'd say 3-3.5 mil. comtract should be signed prior to the 1st of July.

That is a great point. This signing should help us when we go to sign other players that are currently on the team.
