“@Aportzline: Told #CBJ C Mark Letestu is close to signing a multi-year contract extension w Blue Jackets. He would be a UFA this summer.â€

“@Aportzline: Told Letestu's cap hit will be $1.25M per year. So, it's a two-year, $2.5 million contract. He would have been a UFA this summer.â€

Love this. He's been a consistent team player since he got here. Always in the mix and keeps the energy going. I hope we get him for a good term and a fair price.

I like this a lot. He's the type of heart and soul guys you need to compete night in, night out. My guess is a two-year deal, nothing that breaks the bank. He's the perfect third line contributor on either the wing or center.

I hope he gets signed before the deadline, and otherwise we can move him if a deal can't be had. A signing would be best, though, Letestu does a lot for us.

I like the signing if the plan is to have him on the 3rd or 4th line. I like him, but was kind of hoping we would trade him this year as I tought we could have gotten something good back for him.

While I don't mind the signing looking at it by itself, it leaves 1 space for next year unless we re-sign Vinny. Then its the goal-less wonders for another year, barring trades. There have to be trades right? Or is Bob going to continue as one of the top 5 goalies in the league who will support a 26-14-42 playoff run to the 8th spot and a 15th pick in the draft? I dunno.

That is why I don't love the signing. Also, why I want to trade certain players. Some posters get mad, but you have to make room for some improvements on offense.

I think you and I are of a similar mindset. Too many guys here focus on the trees and forget the forest.

In my mind Letestu is an improvement on offense if he is slotted on the third line. To me, he is the epitome of a tough, hard working, energetic third liner that can also score, and has a knack for scoring important goals.

...Really?
You make room for more offense. Just because you have guys signed who are currently playing on your top line, it doesn't mean that he has to play there.

That's some backwards logic and pretty simple minded.

So, how are you getting rid of these signed players if you aren't trading them?

There's this remarkable thing - a whole other hockey league, called the AHL, where forwards can go when there's no room for them on the NHL roster. And then there's these other things, called "draft picks", which one can frequently get in so-called "trades" in which excess bottom-6 forwards on small contracts (like what we have) are sent to another team that has the rights to those "draft picks". It's really awesome!

Honestly, that's a silly thing to worry about. "OMG, he's not a first liner therefore we shouldn't keep him because... because... because he's not a first liner and we need room for first liners!" There's pretty much no first liners on the UFA market this year except Iginla (and maybe Elias but I'm fairly certain NJ will keep him), and anyone we draft is going to need to be able to have the option to develop in Springfield.

Hope he's re-signed so I'll be able to feature the famous #LetestuHug for years to come.

Thanks Skraut, now I've had that song stuck in my head for the last hour
Enjoyed the video, lots of nice moments. Perhaps the shot of Tyutin doing whatever he's' doing to his stick lingers a bit but it's an awesome video. :yo:

I hope this signing happens, I like Letestu a lot. He's a guy I wouldn't mind seeing in the SO more often.
