I know TDA's hands probably aren't clean on this, but at some point, we need to start recognizing some coaches and franchises are also dysfunctional, and players moving on doesn't necessarily say anything about the players.

If Tortorella is involved, you get a free pass in my book. Just like everyone trying to get out of Calgary.

Overall, it seems like there are a lot more toxic organizations than non-toxic at this point.

I would be nice for *someone* to give us some level of clarity as to what exactly happened here.

-- TDA for prospect deal agreed upon prior to the draft.
-- NHL says no, the trade can't be done until a full calendar year passes (7/8).
-- Waddell practically confirms this on his July 1 presser.
-- The date a deal is eligible to be completed passes with still no deal and radio silence on CAR's end despite every insider still saying the deal will still happen.
-- Prospect thought to be going in return shows up at prospect camp.
-- TDA ultimately gets bought out.

So what caused this deal to die between 7/2 and 7/14? Combined with the Pesce situation and the Karlsson talks seemingly not moving in weeks and it's all just really confusing.

Simple answer

Massimo Rizzo is really turning heads at prospect camp.

Well, I wonder if the Flyers are now available as a "3rd team" to eat some salary for the Karlsson deal?

Waddell: "Hey Danny, if the league thinks our TDA trade was cap circumvention, wait until they get a load of this idea I have...."
*lots of details here*
Briere: "Ok, I'm in. f*** Bettman and the horse he rode in on. What's Grier's number again?"

I thought it was obvious that the deal wouldn't happen as long as we were still pursuing EK. And there's no reason for the Flyers to wait to see if the deal actually happens if their goal is, first and foremost, to be rid of TDA.

I wouldn't say that was obvious, at least to me, at the time. It's pretty clear now, though, that the EK talks are gumming up the entire RHD market right now. Whoever wins his services sets up the stage for everybody else, because the Canes clearly think that they have a shot at EK at their trade price.

Yeah, this 100%.

A possibility is that the 2nd buyout window opening for PHI happened at a critical moment and they chose to go that route instead of trade with retention and paying 2/3 of what Tony is owed over two years instead of 50 % and one used retention slot. PHI may need those elsewhere to do some house cleaning after the previous management.

Massimo's attendance at the camp may have been one bump on the road, too.

And apologies to all, but I can't read Massimo's name without instantly flashbacking to the 2001 storylines of The Bold and The Beautiful where it was revealed that Ridge's real father was actually Massimo "Mojo" Marone, Stephanie's once flame.

Dude, how much TV do you have to watch to come up with these references?

There's a funny story to this one: when these BB episodes run in Finland (where BB used to be huge) in 2003, I was at the time attending in a Law&Economics class. There had just been stuff about limiting business liabilities by artificially incorporating risky businesses like oil wreighting into separate companies, and right on cue Massimo here schemed to train Eric's other son Rick into a shrewd business manager in order to drive Ridge out of Forrester Fashions. They made a big deal of this particular lesson of Massimo's and Rick making a show of how Ridge the bad CEO had not incorporated the company plane and how the liabilities would kill the company if the plane ever dropped into a habitated surroundings. I haven't really followed the show otherwise but momentarily I was hooked to see how the Massimo stuff would turn out in the end.

I actually practically stopped watching TV sometime around mid-2010s. My stuff is of dated backlog.

Reminds me of when I was in Australia in January, was channel surfing one morning before we went out. Came across a soap opera where everyone had an American accent, but some sounded just off. I thought "why is an Australian soap opera done with American accents?" Turns out it was just B&B.

Why do you think his English is better than ours?
It actually is an important educator. Back in the day when foreign programming made into our television, the language teachers insisted that they'll use subtitles instead of dubbing.

So, on that note, when I was doing my basic training during my conscription, and the corporals were teaching us how to be a guardsman and to call out "Stop! Password?" to any passer-by, one guy asked what if they don't understand Finnish, and was promptly told to in that case yell "FREEZE, MOTHERf***ER!!" at them.
