With tarasenko rumoured to be nearing a decision I wonder if we’re still one of the teams in there with a 1 year deal
I don’t care about Grier. His team is rebuilding so we can help him more than he can help us. The Borg will figure it out with or without him.Yeah, watch Grier f*** us over again with an all-star tier player they're offering, and trade him to another team (seemingly the only other option is Pittsburgh).
However, Karlsson, unlike Meier, has a NMC.
So, again, one would think playing for today's Carolina team (an annual cup contender and with his former teammate Burns), versus a Pittsburgh team that didn't even make the playoffs last season with old star players at the end of their career, I know which team sounds objectively more appealing from a player perspective with trying to win the cup.
Plus our blueline's high talent and our system have to be very appealing to Karlsson. He'd thrive here.
Or we don’t feel we need to offer a ton for a luxury. Our defense is already top notch. Adding Karlsson only improves our massive strength some.If Grier likes Pittsburgh's offer better, this feels like a situation where the Canes are low-balling again. It may well be that Carolina's brass does not view that Karlsson is as likely to waive his NMC to Pittsburgh as he would be to Carolina. Honestly, I don't think that's a terrible bet to take. Pittsburgh didn't even make the playoffs last season.
I feel like this is the correct take. If we don’t get him, fine. We just move on to Plan B(ouchard).Or we don’t feel we need to offer a ton for a luxury. Our defense is already top notch. Adding Karlsson only improves our massive strength some.
Especially with Nikishin timeline following OrlovI don’t see the logic in extending Skjei after signing Orlov.
Skjei is curious to me, unless the extension is 2 years or something and they think that Nikishin needs to start on the bottom pairing
We weren't lowballing last time, unless you think Jarvis, Necas and picks was fair. That was their last counteroffer to them, we were willing to do Jarvis, picks and prospects and they wanted Necas, too. f*** that shit.If Grier likes Pittsburgh's offer better, this feels like a situation where the Canes are low-balling again. As we just saw in the Patrick Kane saga this deadline, NMCs are usually a gigantic detriment to trade compensation. It may well be that Carolina's brass does not view that Karlsson is as likely to waive his NMC to Pittsburgh as he would be to Carolina. Honestly, I don't think that's a terrible bet to take. Pittsburgh didn't even make the playoffs last season.
