Something a little different, what about a Chatfield trade? He's a UFA next Summer as well. The Clifton contract comp is a little much for the 3rd pairing in years without flexibility. Orlov babysits DeAngelo, with the minutes spread out across the defense. Handedness and styles compliment. Top to bottom, it would be the most talented defense of the era. Unconventional to spend that much on the blueline, but it is an unconventional group.

SJ 25% retention Pesce
Anaheim gets Canes 2024 2nd, Drury and either Rees or Suzuki and retains 25% on EK
Canes get EK

or something along those lines

It’s good for “going for it“ this year. We’d be really short d next summer though. I feel like if we don’t get Skjei or Pesce signed during this off season there’s no way they stay next year.
