For the sake of argument, what would a potential Karlsson trade look like anyways?

Karlsson (say, $3-3.5M retained) for Skjei/Pesce, Teravainen(?), futures

I feel like that would be far more attractive for SJ than eating an anchor like Petry due to the ability to acquire additional assets by flipping Skjei/Pesce and perhaps Teravainen.
Don’t think San Jose would have interest in teuvo

DW sounds a little short of breath. Hope he isn't too stressed.
Well, if he is stressed, he should know that a lot of the Caniac nation is very happy with the moves today by the front office; so congrats to them on their work so far. Hopefully in the days to come, we'll have another good move left (or maybe two if we're kind of lucky). Presumably we're trading one of our 2nd pairing defenseman at the very least after getting Orlov.
LeBrun reiterating that we're still in on EK, just now.
Pittsburgh is now OVER the Cap by $1.5M.
Let's do it. Let's get Karlsson with us seemingly the last team left interested and able to get him. We'll reunite him with Burns. If we do get him, having

Slavin-Burns
Orlov-Karlsson
Chatfield-TDA

sounds like one of the best blue lines in the NHL in recent years. Seriously, what a high bar that is.
These are officially the times

They're gonna want futures primarily. Pesce might have some value as a 1RD there as a stopgap for a year. But, then. they might also turn around & flip him for more assets.

That's why I think giving them one of Pesce/Skjei works because those are players that can could possibly fetch a 1st+ at the TDL. If they play it smart they can get double the futures by getting whatever we'd give them in addition to whatever they flip the D-man for.

Perhaps a resolution shortly. Seattle is the notable playoff team with cap and lineup space for forwards.

Could we sign Tank, and still trade one of our 2nd pairing defenseman to make cap space for Karlsson after he gets retention?

Seems like that's not enough even with trading one of our D. Still, Tank has 3 Russians on our team now after Orlov signed with us, and we're obviously a cup contender. We have to be an appealing team, and he knows our past interest in him; including this year when an insider on the NHL network said we made an offer to him.

A 3-way with Chicago could work sending both Pesce to SJ & Skjei to Chicago (including other pieces, obviously). SJ with 25% retention & Chicago also retaining 25%, maybe?

So the Kings went all in on Dubois and are going to roll with a goalie trio of Pheonix Copley, Cam Talbot, and David Rittich? I mean, at least they're cheap ($3.375M combined) and all UFA in 24, but damn...

(Plus, they're over the cap right now.)

All things considered the tax rates, and cost of living have to be attractive as well. The tax rates continue to fall, with income rates falling below 4% by 2027 if nothing changes. Although the GOP is working to expedite that. Probably not something every player cares about, but I would imagine it's part of the consideration for many. Hockey players don't make the obscene money that other pro athletes make.

One more tidbit I haven't seen on this board, but Svech Can Go LTIR giving the Canes another 7.75 Million to play with to start the season and run at least through December.
I'm not gonna say he will be ready at the start of the season but there was some talk he may have been ready if the Canes made the final. If thats true I dont see him being LTIR

OK, you expect Svech to be ready at the season start or there abouts. I don't look for him in the lineup until Mid December or early January. I think the Canes will be a little more cautious, because of what happened to Patches last year. We don't need another ACL injury to Svech.
Huge difference in the way a early 20's person heal compared to a mid 30's. If the docs clear him he is playing and again there was some talk about him playing g in the finals if the Canes made it

A 1 year for tarasenko may interest him. He would get a chance to get 1 more big deal with the cap raising but its a risk with his shoulder
