Zero chance Ristolainen plays for Finland. I bet he'd love to make himself eligible for the US though..
I love Ristolainen though, he's arguably one of the most Alpha players that there is in the NHL. He'd be a great presence for sure. Look at him establishing dominance over Ovi here. He has his downsides but still he's one of a kind.

MacKinnon - McDavid - Marner
Stamkos - Crosby - Point
Marchand - Schefeile - Stone
Bergeron - ROR - Barzal
Lafereniere

Makar - Pieterangelo
Chabot- Theodore
Hamilton - Ellis

Hart
Price

I didnt concern myself with handedness

Slovak-Czech-German

Polak is also retired from national team

FTR.. you were pretty close and I'm not saying this to criticize you.

I'd suggest Necas, Zadina, Chytil, Zacha for forward replacements. Simek for a D replacement. Kempny is out all season with an Achilles.. not sure how he recovers.
thanks

D remplacements: Nakladal, Jordan, Sustr maybe

As a player I like him, but he took one snub too hard

Sweden:
Forsberg - Pettersson - Zibanejad
Landeskog - Backstrom - Nylander
Rakell - Karlsson - Lindholm
Arvidsson - Backlund - Silfverberg

I'd put Olofsson in there somewhere

Would love to see him send more rockets to the net on another stacked PP

I think Parayko, Pierre Luc Dubois and Horvat are some guys that have a good chance of being on the team. It'll depend on how things go from now until they make the picks.

Parayko has a shot because he's had success being a shutdown D on a cup winning team and Canada lack strong defensive defensemen.

PLD is most likely on the team, he'd sort of have to play his way off the team at this point. His size and strength will be a plus for him.

Horvat will be on if he can prove he's enough of an offensive threat, he has the rest of his game in shape to be on the team.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Lundell nabs the 4C spot and Valimaki is on the bottom pair. Should be a good team.

Hm let’s see... Granted Karlsson is injury free and Dahlin gets closer to prime level however still far from his peak we’d guess:

Hedman > Carlson
Karlsson ~ Hughes
OEL ~ Werenski
Klingberg ~< Jones
Dahlin > Macavoy
Ekholm ~< Slavin

Tiny edge to Sweden I’d say but basically a ~ between them

And this is heavily taking EK regression into account as well as OEL’s lesser reputation as of late + some benefit of the doubt that Dahlin won’t fully blossom in time. A year ago, or based on the players more general reputation and body of work the Swede D looks clearly more impressive on paper. I mean it’s 4 established Norris caliber (at peak) D-men + a no 1 OA draft pick + arguably the best #2 D in the league (who could easily be replaced by Lindholm or a bunch of other borderline #1 Ds). Nah some gymnastics would be needed to put the USA D ahead still. Let’s say SWE ~ CAN ~ USA on D for now.

As for the other comparisons:
Pietrangelo < Hedman
Chabot ~ Karlsson
Theodore - OEL
Hamilton ~< Klingberg
Makar ~ Dahlin
Ellis ~ Ekholm

Edge Sweden

Pietrangelo ~ Carlson
Chabot ~ Hughes
Theodore - Werenski
Hamilton < Jones
Makar >~ Macavoy
Ellis ~< Slavin

Basically even Steven

No I actually withhold that Sweden has a tiny edge on D in this tournament. 4th place in offense however.

That's totally fair. I'm just not a huge EK fan. Love Hedman and Dahlin though.

All that to say, I want to see some Olympic hockey!!

Might agree that the small edge on D Sweden had has been closed as Karlsson regressed (even though we don’t know where Dahlin is a year from now). However there’s a clear gap to Finland on O cause of Finland’s lack of depth, the same way USA’s stronger depth is closing the gap on O to Russia despite their superior top 6.

Tbh I wouldnt be suprised if Finland would have few players outside from NHL. Finland has always build their roster around teamplay. Also Finland has always been disciplined team, thats why Im bit scared of our players like Ristolainen and Laine.

But anyway 5 olympics 4 medals, wont be suprised if its 5 medals after 2022 :sarcasm:

Maybe not since this is Canada's best team in many years.

Finland's PP units:

Laine-Aho-Teräväinen-Ristolainen-Heiskanen

Rantanen-Barkov-Kakko-Granlund-Vatanen

Next year will be huge for Kakko, Kotkaniemi, Hintz, Pulju, Välimäki, Jokiharju etc.

Sweden's PP units:

Bäckström
Forsberg Pettersson
Klingberg Hedman
OMG

Rakell Zibanejad Olofsson
OEL/Dahlin Karlsson
Very good - Olofsson could really rip them with feeds from EK. Both OEL and Dahlin great at zone entries.
