Let’s talk about: Jason Robertson (EDIT: 1st Dallas Star to hit 100+ points in a single season)

Ok, I'll bite. Why was he drafted so low (relatively, obviously) and what has changed to make him so dominant? Usually in these sorts of rare cases of meteoric rise, it's becoming a better skater, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

His skating in junior was poor, so he fell. If he had average skating he was a top 10 pick, if he had above average skating he was a top 5 pick.

Thanks. So then his skating has completely transformed? Or transformed enough? Seems like not everyone agrees that's the case. And how does that happen, just hard work? If that's the case, more players would do it.
I wouldn’t say it has transformed.

I would say that scouts focused too much on one negative - missing out on the overwhelming positives of a player that outscored his closest teammate - an overager by 30 points as a draft-eligible player.

One of the worst comparisons ever, contextually speaking. For one, McD joined the Oilers as an 18 yo and they were hideously bad. Jason's first full season with a much better Dallas team came as a 21 yo (correct me if I'm off by a few months).

It's a bad comparison but to make it a little more even, playing at 18 is easier than playing for Rick Bowness :sarcasm::laugh:

Jk but fr, still not bad considering Robertson was a 2nd round pick who can't skate. To be even close to any level of McDavid production is special

Yea I don’t think anyone should take that graphic as suggesting Robertson is better than McDavid. Just that his production is absolutely elite.

His skating concerns, like M Tkachuk, are very overblown. Especially when you factor the size. He can move around just fine, he's just not a burner.

Yeah that's just silly. One broke in as an 18 year old the other as a 21 year old. Very disingenuous comparison.

What an absolute pleasure to watch he might be the purest example of elite hockey IQ. The control he has over the game in limited minutes is insane. Surprising that N.Robo’s biggest weakness is his hockey IQ when he has such an intelligent brother, hopefully he can put it all together at some point.

There are fifteen pages of people in this thread saying 2.3 years of age difference isnt actually a difference at all. Fun to see that come full circle

It's a tale as old as time itself. Tall and smart vs. short and dumb.

Was just checking the scoring leaders and noticed Robertson has gone 7 games without a goal now, has he been sick or playing injured?

He's put up some points (5 in last 7 games) but is a little snake bitten in the goal department. He was way overhyped when he was on his hot streak and now is on a bit of a cold streak

His "hot streak" still has him as a top 5 scorer through 40% of the season.

His line looks a bit gassed from their efforts and the Stars' long road trip. The fact that he's still producing points is a good sign. He was especially good against Carolina.

He'll be fine. May not have as torrid of a pace as he started with, but his production will still be at a high level.

I wouldn't say overhyped.....he had an outstanding month of November, and I don't think even the biggest Stars fan expected him to continue putting up 2 points per game or whatever it was last month.

He'll snap out of this funk eventually, and revert back to his usual rate of production.
