Slowly skating his way to one of the most impressive all-around statistical profiles by a winger that we’ve ever seen…basically prime Mark Stone (circa 18/19/20) with more PP output.

He’s also learned at the (slow) feet of Pavelski about how to do everything amazingly while not in a rush!

Amazing player! I was wondering why Nick isn't nearly as good as his brother, I found the answer... Jason is 6'3, Nick is 5'9. I'm not saying Nick can't be a good player, but he certainly ain't a superstar like his bro.

I mean, Bradley Marchand is 5'9'' and very good while his brother Tiberius is 6'1'' and is not in the NHL so.

I'm sorry but I just laughed out loud at work while reading that part.

"Hey, this guy might be good. Really good. Hell, he might even be Mark Stone good." :biglaugh:

Not sure I understand the joke? Mark Stone in his prime was absolutely an underrated star - it was a much lower scoring league and he put together 2-3 seasons of absolutely mammoth on-ice results. He was one of the top few wingers in the league and was able to dominate 200’ of ice without high level skating.

And I caveated that by saying Robbo basically is a higher scoring version. And putting together one of the best winger seasons we’ve seen.

And you think is a laughable discrediting of Robertson?

This kid fails the eye test so many times but then just rips a shot and scores. Watching him skate is painful.
Horvat used to be like that and now he’s a really strong skater. Another is Rantanen.

If Robo can work on his power skating, dude might be Lindros 2.0 (hopefully without the injuries). It’s not like Robo is slow, it’s just his choppy strides probably because of his growth spurt I believe.

It's not that he is slow it's that it seems he skates on the inside of his blades more often than not. It's makes it look ugly..even with that he can move pretty good when he needs to.

I was just reading the set up as something along the lines of "one of the greatest wingers of all time, like Mark Stone", and it made me laugh because I wasn't expecting Mark Stone to be the bar, y'know?

Not trying to discredit either player, just wasn't prepared for that comparison is all.

Lol, I got it. :)

Stone's prime is totally underrated though...and in some ways Robertson is like Stone v2.0 with size, smarts and not the prettiest of strides although it matters in terms of how he dominates.

Just amazingly good. I hope the Stars continue on this trajectory and that they also get to and do well in the playoffs.

Ok, I'll bite. Why was he drafted so low (relatively, obviously) and what has changed to make him so dominant? Usually in these sorts of rare cases of meteoric rise, it's becoming a better skater, which doesn't seem to be the case here.

It was based entirely on his skating. Here is what TheHockeyNews wrote about him in 2017.

Thanks. So then his skating has completely transformed? Or transformed enough? Seems like not everyone agrees that's the case. And how does that happen, just hard work? If that's the case, more players would do it.

His skating is fine now. At worst serviceable. He's not a guy you'll see beat defenders with speed alone, but his hockey IQ more than makes up for that. His positioning at almost all times is impeccable and allows for a guy with less than amazing skating to make plays you wouldn't expect.

i've enjoyed watching him since he started--can't wait to watch him tomorrow and see how that works out with the Wild coming off a poor game vs the ducks today and having to travel to face Dallas on a back to back.
