Leon Draisaitl is not having a good season, he's having a great season

Is 1.5 PPG at $14m (and the top all-time cap hit at time of signing) all it buys nowadays?

Like of course, he's a top forward in the League but he's not currently (and IIRC hasn't been) top in points this year yet, and he's not even top-10 in assists.

Inflation really is crazy.

We always knew what he could do offensively, I didn’t not have Drai becoming an elite defensive player at 29 years old in my books. My guess is that he saw 7 games of Barkov up close and personal last June and something clicked. What a talent.

Edit- if someone has his offensive and defensive advanced stats this season, please post them. Legit playing some incredible two way hockey this season.

He’s having an incredible season.

30GP
22G 23A 45P
+18
57% face offs

Dominant at both ends of the ice as well.
Usually he is called a PP merchant and lazy defensively but this couldn't be further from the truth this year. He is playing the best regular season hockey of his career, and I'd say he's better than McDavid this year so far.

Best advanced stats he's had his entire career and most of his scoring is at EVS. He is leading the league in not only goals, but EVS goals (Draisaitl has 18, Kaprizov has 17). Of his 32 EVS points, 29 of them are primary. Only Mackinnon and Kaprizov have more 5v5 points this season.

He is doing this with Podkolzin and Kapanen/Brown as his wingers right now.

not if stu skinner has a say in the matter
6 straight games with a .929 or better

I've often wondered what the mindset of players like Draisaitl is likes with regards to being the Gretzky of their nation.

Like, nobody in Germany even comes close to this guy. Most IIHF countries at the men's national level usually at least have a handful of elites at minimum (Czechs, Finnsor are otherwise nobodies but it probably sucks more being the only legit franchise-level elite talent

He is 26 and was 1 game away from being a cup winner last year, I'll take it for 2.5M
trust me I want him to workout but if we’re being honest the oilers got that far in spite of his preformance not because of it. Pickard was started for a reason. He is still young so I will agree not all hope is lost

He's going to get his cup this year.

They gotta through your Jets first!

Before last season, he had five consecutive seasons of finishing top four in both goals and points. He’s the only player since Gretzky to do that. Looks like he’s starting a new streak.

Sure, just gloss over his league leading 22 goals and being tied for second in points, while ignoring his overall resume.

He’s getting paid like the top 5 player he is.

That's exactly what's funny - the top 5 players who aren't named Draisaitl are being paid less.

I know sarcasm on the internet is hard to detect but...
