It was out of the norm to give a kid such a big role at a men's tournament but it probably really allowed any potential doubts or questions people had of Carlsson to be eased. He of course wasnt perfect and maybe a bit more passive than he normally is but he belonged and for a guy who went from the wing in the SHL to center at the Worlds thats more than fair. Fantilli had a different role but again its nice when you have a player that can and will adapt to whatever role you give him. He also improved as the tournament went on.
It's funny because I was a tiny tiny bit disappointed in Carlsson at the World's. Everyone's citing it as this moment where he made his mark. But he always looked like a guy who was going to be a great center, I don't know why anyone doubted him playing center. He's the most "center looking" prospect I've ever seen and yes I know that's funny because he was on the wing for Orebro. At the World's he was totally fine but too cautious for my tastes. Carlsson can be a beast driving the net and he didn't do that. Still narrowly my guy at #2.
