I hope Carlsson. I think both guys are situated well with the respective teams. I think an underrated trait with Fantilli is he seems to be real mature and dedicated to improvement. But that's just from what I've read about him.

With Carlsson, I think Anaheim made the safe pick, but with the right development he can be a franchise guy.

I really couldn't guess. I think both guys have work to do to adapt their game to NHL superstardom but both are locks to be effective NHLers. What kind of development path they both take is anyone's guess but both Columbus and Anaheim have a somewhat spotty history developing forward prospects so, for me, it's hard to predict.

I still think each would've been a better fit for the other team in terms of roster construction, but neither will regret their choice for one second. As these are my A and B teams, I'm excited to watch them both develop. I decline to answer this poll.

100%. Fantilli was a better fit stylistically to play with Terry and Zegras.

Gotta trust the scouts though.

Haven't watched either enough to even guess and I'd suspect most people fall in this category

Gotta trust the guys who get paid to do it.

The better defensive center fits more with Zegras

The more I think the more I think this went the right way.

McTavish+ Carlsson in the middle should compliment each other real well.

Where as Fantilli adds elements into Columbus top6 that it’s missing

Fantilli is like MacKinnon and Carlson more like Barkov.

Both elite players, you just have to pick your flavor. I do think Fantilli will score more points in the NHL over his career, but Carlson may drive more wins, It is hard to say and it depends on what you define as "better" for their career.

It will be funny how much the CBJ factor impacts this. You ask this a week ago and this poll is not even close.

As someone who has been on the Carlsson train for a while, it's funny how much people's opinions change based on what one team thinks. In April there was a poll Fantilli vs Carlsson vs Michkov. Fantilli had like 53% of the 91 votes, Carlsson 17%. And I'm one of the Carlsson votes....

If Anaheim took Fantilli 2nd, he probably would be winning this poll 80/20.

C'mon people, have some conviction in your own opinions!

I think it's less CBJ and more Anaheim deciding Carlsson would be better. There was a vocal contingent arguing for Carlsson even before that though, the world championship made them much louder. That's why I was so surprised 9 out of 10 scouts in Bob's final rankings had Fantilli 2nd. Maybe they worked for teams with late firsts or no firsts and didn't really think about who they preferred though.

This, exactly.

I don't know. I don't watch junior games and YouTube highlight packages don't give you a complete insight into the player.

I don't understand why people pretend to be experts on junior players. I can barely find the time to watch just all my pro team's games. But apparently everyone else has the time to be an amateur scout.

I dunno. Makes more sense to debate this after we see them in the NHL.

A lot of us prioritize watching prospects over NHL games.

As a Columbus fans I'll admit I slightly favored Carlsson but Ive also been defending Fantilli and questions of his IQ on our board for a little while.

For career its tough, Fantilli is in a better place to start his career but we all know teams go through ups and downs over 10-15years so things balance. I guess it depends on what you value more. Fantilli will score more, Carlsson will make his linemates job significantly easier. Both are big bodies that should excel in the playoffs. Carlsson has the edge in IQ while Fantilli has the skating+physicality. Honestly its tough, it could go either way and I wouldnt be surprised

Carlsson. I've been saying it all along. I was pissed when he went #2, because I saw a way he could fall to one of my teams if Fantilli went #2 and the rumours of Columbus taking Smith #3. Oh well, such is life.

I think Carlsson is a future Kopitar in the league.

I wonder who Jarmo would have taken if he had 2OA...

Fantilli 100%. Especially if you believe the reports they had Smith over Carlsson
I never took those reports very seriously. If true, however, Verbeek was a fool not to swap picks with Columbus when Jarmo called him.

Definitely not. Especially that high, if you like a guy then take him. Everyone is playing poker this time of year, he would have been a fool to risk losing the player he wanted

But you are saying that Jarmo had Carlsson 4th on his list...why would Verbeek not swap 2 and 3?

You said it with the 1st sentence of your last post. "I never took those reports very seriously". Its a bad time of year to guess and find out its all smoke and mirrors and not get your guy.

So we're back to the idea that it is very possible that Carlsson could have been Jarmo's pick at 2. Which makes Verbeek's refusal to swap the pick entirely understandable.
