First of many this season, I think.
I think he's been a very pleasant surprise since being drafted given the initial mediocre assessment of the pick from some. Not that the critics were wrong, but he seems to be improving the main area he needed to in order to continue to progress. Props to him. Hopefully he can find a good skating coach to continue to work on that.

On the one hand it's just a back door tap in, but on the other hand, notice the edgework.

In on calling this narrative BS before it really starts to gain momentum.

And this is not to say his skating was not a concern(and why he was available in the 2nd round) nor that it's not an area for improvement, but it was WAY overblown, especially on this board.

Lenni's team is so ASS though.

Other than skating he seemed to have all the makings of a solid middle six type winger when drafted. In the second round that's a great project. Whatever the narrative on the board was about the skating it's in the past. At this point, anyone interested has had a chance to actually watch him and can start to form their own opinions.

Watching last years footage and what he looks like now he’s made about as much of an improvement as you possibly could in a single offseason

that's really impressive. If nothing else it means he made the effort and took it to heart that he needed to improve. That's not so common with 18 year old kids.

100%. He mentioned his skating as something he wanted to improve in his draft interview. Kid seems self-aware and willing to put in the work. Good work ethic at that age is always a good sign imo.

He is great prospect as a person because he had issues, but he knew it, he told about it and he worked on it.

From games of the previous year you can clearly see mechanics issues and coordination issues with the puck. Now its just not there, he is a better skater this year. He isn't really faster, but if he will add more speed than it would be even more fascinating.

I repeat again, that he is top 6 player by his ceiling. He is more than steady calm good 200 foot forward with sone offensive abilities . He was and he can be more than that, his hockey vision and game involvement are on the very good level. You don't have a lot of better players in the first round, there were not so many. He has issues, but again - ge is working very well on development of his weak aspects.

Really? And you criticize my bad jokes? I love that idea. They’d make a great third line.

I would argue his skating "issues" last year were more due to a lack of necessary puck skills and his pace of play rather than being a slow skater. You could see a lot of times where he didn't have the puck on his stick where he showed off some fairly quick skating, but I just don't think he had the puck skills to be able to play like that with the puck on his stick. You saw it a lot of the time when he'd try to use a burst of speed in game trying to put a move on a defender and he'd lose it a lot of the time. Increasing puck skills will lead to him getting more confidence and with more confidence you will see him skate a bit faster with the puck on his stick. Either way, it is nice to see him consistently ramp up his pace of play. Definitely bodes well for his potential of being more of an offensive player in the NHL.
