MINUS-2

Oh yeah
It’s just another typical game from one of the all time most no heart , weakest , meekest , nonchalant players in league history
GLG

To watch the summary:

Putting the minus 2 on Engvall alone is not accurate.

That was a trade deadline beauty by Dubas. It will be fascinating to see whether they keep him on as GM if the Leafs win one round and fall to the Bruins in the second. Whoever is the GM will have some heavy lifting to do prior to July 1, when Matthews and Nylander both have their no trade clauses kick in.
and Marner

I missed the game last night, but saw the highlights. My, oh my, what a game.

Fugginay!!
It was a good game, pretty entertaining.

Devils are a nice Team, probably deserved to win last night.

I like to read the opposing Teams PGT afterwards to see their impressions of the game.
I find Devil's PGT most closely resembles the Leaf board after a loss.
Mostly fair and honest assessment with a few crazies mixed in.

Wasn't it Brodie and McCabe?
It was both. Dying 5 minutes that was your two pairings. Gio with McCabe and Holl. That's what Holl does every time we win. He has been out there in the dying minutes insuring the 2 points.

He was out until the 59 minute mark and then Brodie and McCabe came on. You can see that Keefe had Gio and Holl out there for when the goalie was gonna get pulled. and he was likely going back to Holl and Gio in the dying 30 seconds but Holl couldn't get back on.

This was a big time win for the boys.

As O-dog mentioned on the broadcast, these type of games are typically a scheduled loss travelling back east from a long stint on the west coast. He obviously knows what he is talking about if you watched the 1st period. NJ was clearly the better team to start the game, and maybe even the entire way. Sammy shut the door early on and it ultimately gave us a shot.

I loved how they competed from the 2nd period onward. It was clear we didn't have our A-game but we stuck with it and found a way to stay in the fight. It was a playoff style effort from that point onward. We did what it took to make the right plays at the right time, and we found a way to get the 2 points as a result.

NJ is a very strong team. This was as impressive of a win as we've had all year. In true leaf fashion, we have had 2 of these impressive "playoff style" wins in our last 3, and an absolutely vintage let down game in between. Coincidently enough, the only Leaf game I get to attend all year :(

go figure...

Couple extra notes:

-After watching Lafferty first hand in Vancouver on Saturday, and seeing him get elevated in the lineup last night, this guy was clearly not just a throw in to the McCabe deal. This guy will win us a game in the playoffs, mark my words. I love his game. High compete, wheels for days, and some sneaky skill. I think I read something somewhere last night that Lafferty is the player we wanted Engvall to become, and I think that is pretty accurate. I actually think he is kind of like a birthchild of Micheyev and Engvall. Either way, he's exactly what we need down the lineup.

-McCabe at 2AAV for 2 more seasons after this is such a dream come true. What a pickup.

-Kerf has one of the worst cases of the yips I have ever seen. If there is a bad decision to be made offensively, Kerf will find it. My god. It may be an unpopular opinion, but he needs to stay on the top line with Mitch and Auston until he finds his scoring touch. We need him feeling good about his game going into may. Believe it or not, he has been one of our better playoff performers in recent years, and we cannot afford him to play with the yips. I think it unfortunately has to get a bit worse before it gets better.

great road win, enjoy the days off

Yes the Coach definitely trusts that pairing defensively over Rielly's pairing.

May?! Good one :biglaugh:

Holl was on the ice for all three NJ, but I wouldn’t necessarily blame him for any directly. That said, he was waaay out of position chasing a hit on the 3rd goal

Also interesting, Leafs are 7-3 in their last 10. When I saw that in the standings I was shocked, considering all the recent doom and gloom. It was good to get that road trip out of the way and good they can get some rest before some home cooking. There are still a lot of road games to go, but they only leave the time zone once to go to Nashville which is essentially nothing.

I was just thinking the same. It feels like the leafs are 3-7. But they've played .700 hockey despite the Vancouver and Edmonton debacles.

We should expect a period of .500 play as we have added 3 new defensemen, 6 new players and they haven't had many practices with the club yet to gell and see which pairings work.

I could see this being our playoff lineup:

Kerfoot Matthews Marner
Bunting ROR Tavares
Nylander Lafferty Jarnkrok
Knies Kampf Acciari

Spreads the offence out more.
Kerfoot is a big question mark on top line but he does add a ton of speed and effort.

Naws, I want him to crush that guy every time like he did and force a weak wrister towards the net. Almost always ends up a turnover.

There were 2 Leafs and 1 Devil out front so the support was there. Flukey one handed stab tip after Gio let his man get away from him and the forward missed the interception really.

The 2nd goal was the only one I thought he had some blame on as he switched to pressure while other two Leafs didn't pick up the loose man. Acciari was actually held on this olay and was livid at the refs after the goal went in.

The first one was on Marner (as he looked skyward after it goes in) but he made up for it.
