I am just trying to learn. If a team suddenly becomes better when behind, why aren't they employing those tactics all game?

Does "emotion" have that much of an effect on intensity?

Does it affect all teams, or just ones with other issues? For example, I don't see Tampa often falling to 25% xGF everytime they are ahead, but the Leafs do seem to to get burried in that situation.

lets look at last year.

Tampa Bay

Leading: 52.5xgf% (2.32xgf/2.10xga)
Tied: 52.5xgf% (2.33xgf/2.12xga)
Trailing: 57.8xgf% (2.64xgf/1.93xga)

Toronto

Leading: 49.6xgf% (2.40xgf/2.43xga)
Tied: 51.2xgf% (2.45xgf/2.34xga)
Trailing: 54.0xgf% (2.56xgf/2.18xga)

so yeah, Tampa sees a similar effect, like all teams do.

Things seem to be going pretty well for the team. From a standings perspective, we are doing well. Our play could be better over 60 minutes, but it has been fairly decent for good chunks of a game in recent games. I like this divisional focus in terms of giving us a better (best) chance at making into the Conference finals.

TBH we haven't been playing great but there's always something to be said for winning. Imagine if our record was 4-4, people would be freaking out. We're a work in progress, not even 10 games into the season, several new faces to adjust to, there's enough bright spots to compensate for our weaknesses to keep me happy anyway. Holl, Brodie and our big 4 forwards all look good, a 6-2 record, only one major injury, overall I'm more than happy.

And the division is so good for us. To me we look like the weakest division in hockey, no question that the prospect of playing whoever in the first two rounds is so much better than playing Boston and Tampa. I don't think any team benefits more than us from this setup (though you could argue that it's good for everyone in our division except for irrelevant Ottawa). I'm looking forward to winning the cup and the yahoos on the main boards talking about how many asterixes our cup has next to it because of the divisions. :neener:

We're set up perfectly and this is the chance of a lifetime, make it happen guys!!

Ya, I agree. I can't see how this divisional setup isn't good for us. Its time to make it happen.

Personally, I don't like using the "tired" excuse. If they are tired after 8 games, how tired are they gonna be after 56 in like 110 days? And then the playoffs. I just don't think it's valid. Everyone is "tired".
Leafs have played the most games from any team in the NHL without much rest. They have played every other day including a back to back. Everybody is not tired. Every other team has either had a rest or played less games. Your 56 in 110 doesn't apply.
That's fine, just don't say they were "tired" if something undesirable happens in the playoffs. It's good that they are winning while "tired".

Leafs have played the most games from any team in the NHL without much rest. It's a valid excuse. Nobody will be saying tired in the playoffs. Leafs and the other team will be on even ground in terms of games and rest.
Not sure why you are putting " " marks on tired but it's a valid reason.

I don't need to see Tkachuk beaten up. Not taking the bait and then just pushing his buttons and watching him fly into an impotent babyrage at his own Gatorade bottles is beating him at his own game. Shit's embarrassing. Keeping him tilted is the real win. It's easy to beat a player who takes himself out of the game all by himself. For a guy who supposedly plays with an edge he sure is a delicate little flower.
i think he will push it till someone fights

Like you said earlier, this is not surprising at all. This just confirms the old adage of sitting on a lead. One thing that is different between TB and TOR that shows the difference between championship hockey and not is how TB still commanded the lion share of xGF even when leading. Yes, they regress from when they trail in a game (as expected), but they still generate more than their opposition when they have a lead. Something this leaf team will need to work toward. Also, I think puck possession numbers would be interesting to see with this leaf team in all 3 aspects of the game (leading/tied/trailing). I would suspect that would show an even larger gap between TB and TOR. Because I do believe most of our high danger chances when we have a lead come off of transition, or a one and done in the O-zone. Whereas I feel like TB still maintains a bit more possession when playing with the lead. Making it easier to defend the lead, and likely resulting in that xGF gap between the 2 clubs.

It is overpriced, but pretty cool, especially the glass elevator.
Yeah price was a little bit much. I've always been a fan of the glass floors, well once I get over the height thing and am able to look straight down. If and when they do build a new Jays stadium, I hope they just tear down Rogers Centre and build in its place. I find it cool going to a Jays game with roof open and the Tower over looking everything.

For them to have 12 points thus far is amazing. It's crazy to think they could've also had 16 quite easily with couple bounces. Great start. Keep pushing.

You're always going to come up short comparing yourself to Tampa or Vegas. I want to see how Toronto stacks up to teams in the 3-10 range.

There's still time for Toronto to get to Tampa's level. 3-4 years of good drafting, which Toronto flubbed after the Matthews pick, will get us there.
