Tbh I'm a little confused as to why Matty got the second star, I thought Mitch had a much better game
The goal. Bérubé post game went out of his way to say he wasn't up to speed and yet and it would "take time". Matthews was okay and the stats support that too.

Mitch was just OK, what did he really do?

Marner dominated all over the ice last night and was, by far, the best skater out there.
The advanced stats actually look crazy.

Marner 5v5 ozone start%: 28.57%

5v5 xGF% team rankings:
1. Marner: 60.94% (+39.54%)
2. Myers: 43.79%
3. Tanev: 41.23%
4. Roberston: 39.12%
5. Lorentz: 34.27%

Also looked incredible on special teams.
Just a monster driver of play at both ends of the ice.

It's amazing how jaundiced fans go out of their way to undermine an objectively good night. Just wait until he goes pointless in three games, which will happen. Oh boy, get it all out then lol.

Matthews looked better than last game but still only looks 75%.

Gonna be nice once he gets really rolling.

Minten is really adjusting quickly. NHL size and smarts and he is learning so quick to process the game at this level.....which is perfect as we needed a 3C. The rest of the AHLers can go once we get healthy.

It's really why none of them are taken seriously, so blinded by hate for the little guy.

I don't care about losing some marginal NHler on waivers, if that's the price to keep this kid, based on merit, so be it. He might just be our three hole C solution. With young players, it's usually the defensive awareness that takes time. Not an issue here!
We know the other options haven’t really worked so at this point it’s worth the chance to let him play.

Marner is one hell of an amazing player. He just needs to figure out how to bring that level of play in the playoffs... we have a few guys like that, Matthews too. Just relax and play your game, you'll be fine. Weirdly, I think this year they might figure it out... and much of that will be Berube.

With Minten, his advanced stats are not that good at all but his results are excellent and the fact Berube is not giving him easy minutes (33% ozone starts) shows they are really testing him for that 3C job. He's really earned an extended look now.

Just in comparison, Grebenkin has 67% ozone starts and A. Nylander has been sent out there for 100% ozone starts.

I’m impressed you posted this after a night with your Lagavulin. (Jealous)

He’s done alright, nobody is perfect. He will be judged on how he handles Marner and retool if there is another early playoff exit. The older D guys contracts might not age well, but he didn’t resign Brodie, Liljegren is young enough that In 3 years he could still be “the one that got away”. Timmins was slept on by a lot of people, how he handles his next contract will be important. in 3 years he might be our only puck moving d man as Rielly and OEL age.

Hopefully Minten stays. We need a smart player just like him on the third line, being able to jump up when needed.
He’s right though lily was an absolute ball drop blame the coach for that Timmins has to get paid as an rfa if you actually watch him he’s not really good he competes which is Berubes favourite attribute in a player(can’t blame him for wanting that)but when he doesn’t keep it simple you can see the type of player he is and the playoffs is a different animal well shall see though

Lily is not capable of playing winning hockey. He became addition by subtraction, like Sandin.
Hope you are wrong about Kampf and Reaves. Minten and Grey add something special.
The biggest problem with Liljegren is we have/had to go through Boston, Tampa and Florida in the playoffs. He can't play in those series.

So our actual core gets a pass with Rielly for 8 years but the 1 year he became a regular in the playoffs we harp on the kid?
Nope. And not really sure how you got that from my post to be honest (unless you meant to quote someone else).

I've been saying we need to move Tavares and one of Marner or Nylander since the Columbus series loss 5 years ago.

Liljegren is completely unrelated. He cannot play in a series against Boston, Tampa or Florida because they target him and he cannot handle himself. Throws his partner off his game as well.

He couldn’t handle himself I highly doubt he can’t handle himself he was never a fast grasper like Sandin was but he always figured it out I have no doubt he would have and id rather him then timmins a decision I will always question especially since the hakinpaa signing was stupid imo there’s no way in hell lily isn’t one of our 6 best defencemen and if you asked me he’s better than atleast 2 of them key word atleast

I used to dance to that Government night club

God I feel old

Ah, I misunderstood what you meant. Not really my genre of music, I wouldn't even know the song existed if not for those memes and if I didn't watch This is the End a hundred times :)

It doesn't matter one little bit if he is better than the other guys. He can't handle playing against Boston, Tampa or Florida in a playoff series. They know it, we know it, most of the fambase knows it.

What are you gonna do when we'll only play Boston, Tampa or Florida in the playoffs for the next half a decade? Just play Liljegren in the regular season?

Hakinpaa brings different attributes and is much cheaper. You can't have 3mil being scratched every night and no way he's cracking the current top 6.

exactly so!!
and I don't think we would be lucky enough to lose some of our vets on waivers.

I think he has another level of offense that may come out with confidence.
