I swear, we'll be the only fan base to win the Cup, and complain about it

I'll be very pissed if the Leafs win in the Cup in a 7 game series in the future...no more than 4 games.

What's the point of even winning the Cup if it's going to take 7 games.

I thought we would win tonight and we did.

That's a good feeling. Like back in the Quinn days.

Eakins deserves credit for having so many AHL players ready to graduate

I recall him saying Holtzer was an NHL D last year and he fits in so well up here as well as Fraser who is the big nasty D we hoped Komi would be..

I expect some trades soon with Komi in press box and Gunnarson and Gardner on the way back

Holzer is a big dude, having seen him up close in person I can testify for this. He's a success story for Morrison, Eakins, and patience. I really like this guy, well worth the wait. And he has some bite to his game. Loved the fact he was sticking his glove in Alfies face.

Well it seems like you do.

I can assure you I don't.

We win a game 3-0 when we didn't play our best, and your immediate reaction is to critique.

It is. Keep in mind that "best" ≠ "perfect".

Not every win is going to be an amazing game all around. Most teams win games by grinding it out and getting some breaks.

Sure. We got breaks today, but we didn't grind all that well in the first 40. Most of the game they were lazy and made many mistakes, it was only because of breaks largely due to playing a much inferior team that we were leading going into the 3rd.

Forget the fact that we killed our penalties, and scored 2 goals (+ an ENG), blocked shots, and got the shutout for our backup all the while battling injuries (+ chemistry issues) ourselves.

And we played a much better game against Philly while battling the same injuries and chemistry issues. Those don't quite explain the poor play today.

I'm not a coach, you are not a coach. We are fans/viewers. I like to leave the coaching to the professionals such as Carlyle. He knows what this team can do with a fuller lineup, and could likely chalk this win up to be a grind out game. We played well enough to win, so we move on and get better for Florida. I have nothing against critiquing a game (especially a loss), but the over exaggeration of tonight's win is ridiculous to me. They had six more SOG's than us, they didn't play all that great IMO, and like us battled a few injuries.

And I respectfully disagree with all of this.

I enjoy critiquing every game, win or lose, especially when there's clear improvement to be made and obvious bad habits appearing.

In the end, though, the whole reason for this is because Glenn Healy pointed out that the Leafs were outplayed (or outworked, as you insist it is and what Healy clearly meant it to mean) and many people in this thread immediately jumped on him for it, despite it clearly being accurate.

For point of fact, two or three people had stated the exact same thing in this thread before anyone brought up Healy's comments and no one disagreed with it.

16-0 on our way to the Cup or bust. Anything less than perfection is a failure and unacceptable.

No cup since '67 gives me a right to complain. They were 9-6 last year too and guess how that turned out? I bet people were saying "all that matters is a win" and "it doesn't matter if we played poorly because we won" last year too. I expect the best and why shouldn't I? I won't be happy until they make it. That's the goal here. And if they keep showing the same effort they've shown in the last two games, I don't think they'll achieve that goal. So excuse me for criticising a sub-par effort and bottom 10 special teams.

I think that Colton Orr was the Leafs best player. He was competing well and doing what it takes to stay to play minutes.

Not going to complain about a win, but no way they can show up like that on their next road trip.

You are a sharp poster for saying this, I agree from a compete level certainly he was, not the best player but he made several good defensively plays and didn't let RC down by taking a chance on him on the 3rd line. No way in heck Ron Wilson would ever trust a tough guy with that many mins, why again I said RC knows how to use every player on the roster and Mclaren scoring the game winning goal tops it off for Toronto's tough guys.

I thought Holzer played really good today, he was poised with the puck and made some good plays.

Orr seems to have really improved his speed, I think Wilson sending him down was a good thing for his career, sometimes it takes being knocked down for someone to get up and be stronger then ever. Mclaren also looked good today, he has decent speed and works hard.

The Sens should really reconsider their attempts to get Leaf fans from coming to their games considering the garbage team they have on the ice right now. The Sens are nothing without Spezza and Karlsson, how did they expect to go far in the play offs if all other teams had to do was shut down two players?

And we played a much better game against Philly while battling the same injuries and chemistry issues. Those don't quite explain the poor play today.

Reimer was in for half that game and Frattin played in that game, chipping in with a goal and an assist. So no we were not battling the same injuries and chemistry issues.

And I respectfully disagree with all of this.

My disagreeing with you has nothing to do with Healy other than the fact that he happens to share your opinion. Can't speak for others, but my "whole reason for this" has nothing to do with him. I wasn't waiting on the edge of my seat for his comments before disagreeing with people who shared his views.

We didn't play "great" or at our "best" or "perfect". We won the game. Welcome to the NHL.

We won the game, and got a shutout...

What is there to complain about tonight? Maybe tommorow... but why complain, 2 hours after we shutout Ottawa?

No team wins all games by complete domination. But we'v won our share of games that way too..

Penguins game, 2nd game v/s Habs, Flyers game.. all were pure dominance.
2 x win against caps, season opener, OT win v/s Sabres were one where better team won.

That leaves with only this win. And even tonight , we were good in many areas of ice. Heck, we've looked good in losses too. (Miller stole one, led by two in both of NY games, lost by 1 goal against Boston etc...)

So quit whining and let me enjoy the Leafs win :yo:

I could see if we won after being outshot something ridiculous like 37-12 and being thoroughly outplayed for sixty minutes. Ottawa really didn't play that well of a game. Usually when a team brings up younger players from the AHL, they have a spark or some sort of impact. I thought Ottawa looked pretty flat for the most part, and didn't really have much energy.

Easy win, 70% effort gets its done against a terrible team. Even without the injuries they are 10-12 team in the east. Over achieving because a average goalie his whole career got hot for a dozen games. It's funny to read their fans think they are a Stanley cup contender. They are and always will be the little brothers.

Not necessarily.. oftentimes call-ups are so worried about playing safe that they don't provide much of anything - it was a good win, no doubt, but the Sens did look like Binghamton out there at times. You can tell Alfie has clearly lost a step, and apart from DaCosta (sp?) no one on their team looked impressive.

We should just take the win and move on.
