Hey, it's not like we're short our number 1 winger, number 1 goalie, one of our top scorers and have 2 of our top 4 D injured or anything.....

Agreed.

We are way better than a healthy Sens team.

Last year's 82 game season was a total fluke for them, and it was a fluke for us too.

Not sure why the league hasn't made an amendment to this statistical error.

Scriven's is funny, sometimes an AHL goalie shows up sometimes its a number 1, you never know who your gonna get.

We won 2-0 with an ENG, we were outshot 34-28 and outplayed by a team with names like Da Costa, Daugovins, Gryba, Benoit, Dziurzynski, Grant, Lundin and O'Brien playing a regular shift.

We won because we capitalized on our few opportunities and got lucky when we gave up good scoring chances. Not because we played well.

We won 3-0 with added ENG (4-0) as Kadri's goal should have counted. Refs screwed the moment again.
We played many AHL players and players who otherwise would be in pressbox because of injuries too, but at least Sens had their #1G out there or score would be 6-0.

Glad to see that people seemed to like my GDT :D

For me.. Whatever I did there was closest that I'd come to creating a GDT.

Personally, I really encourage people with winning record to sign up for more GDTs. ;)

If that's the case, I am willing to give up mine this coming Thursday vs. Sabres if there are any takers (someone with *winning* record, that is :D ) -- send me pm.

Are we the new New Jersey Devils?

What do you think? I don't mind. Boring hockey, but brings results.

NJ: 15gp 41Goals 36Goals Against

Tor: 15gp 43Goals 36Goals Against

Eerily similar, except they have 3 more points and we have a lot more PIMS.

I thought we played some exciting hockey for most of the season, if you take out the Carolina snoozers.

I don't think we're there, but with this many injuries we kind of have to play similarly to that. Lacking a lot of our top guys so have to get points any way we can.

Maple Leafs defensive scheme Devilish in design

According to one player who has played for both coaches, the similarities are uncanny.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Fraser can list them all, too, from where the wingers are positioned to how defencemen are supposed to pressure the puck carrier.

Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle’s system in the defensive zone, Fraser says, is almost a replica of the one he learned in his rookie year under legendary coach Jacques Lemaire.

You do know the whistle blew before the puck went in the net and Kadri kicked it in as well

meh I won't complain too much about wins

how many times in the last 2 wilson years did we lose at home after outplaying the opposition due to 'hot goaltending' by the other team, a lot of times by backups
for a while it seemed like backups had career days against us more often than not

anyway, things will get better if we get some of our guys back. missing lupul, fratting and gardiner is killing our offensive punch it's clear

Someone could be bold enough to suggest with Carlyle last year's team doesn't collapse.

I love how people act like the goalie isn't part of the team, saying we didn't deserve the win because our backup goalie played better than the best goalie in the league right now, as if it is a bad thing.

What I'm not sure of is if there's a relevant point in there or just babbling?

Interesting fact:

Each member of our 4th line (Orr, Mclaren and mcclement) have more goals than max pacioretty.

Maple Leafs defensive scheme Devilish in design

You might be surprised but more than half of the NHL plays this way... Even under Wilson when with the lead they played this way. It isn't new "SYSTEM" is the most over analyzed talked about thing in determining what failed the Leafs when almost all teams play within the same systematics there's not much difference at all just the rosters and execution are different....

It's about goaltending period that makes defensive systems work it starts with them not allowing soft goals going through them that has plagued the Leafs for far too long. Make the first save that's all is asked from your goalies other wise there's NO DEFENSIVE SYSTEM that will help your team. Wilson got this type of goaltending when Reimer first came up after that goaltending is what killed the Leafs.

The area that Carlyle has improved the team is not playing in there own zone but in the offensive zone that's the real change from Wilson but it takes people who don't learn there hockey from what the media says but actually listen when coaches speak to learn. Just about everything Carlyle says about the D zone play Wilson preached the same damn things;)

As an aside: I'm actually really happy with Frazer McLaren.

When we claimed him I just thought he was another plug. Boy was I wrong, he's intimidating, he hits hard, he can actually skate well, and can establish a cycle...

Nice little pick-up.
