Good third. Shut them down. Nice work by 4th line forechecking. McCabe had a much better game. Schenn looks solid. Finally got their speed going in the third. jarnkrok with the clutch goal.

McCabe and Schenn bring a lot of solidity. Gustafsson seems like he might be more on the erratic, transition game defenseman side of things. Think he's more of an awkward fit.

Woll also settled in and played a good road game on the second night of a B2B.

I don’t see Gus in the mix, unless we see injuries. We have some nice snarl back there now with these two. Schenn‘s skating was fine too.

Schenn and McCabe both looked great

One unfortunate bounce on the PP that led to the goal but otherwise kind of an unremarkable. Maybe unremarkable is a good thing for game 1, but doesn't seem to add anything new.

I think Kerfoot feeds well off linemates who create him space with physicality .. he's crafty and skilled in tight spaces, and he need a line mate that can go into the corner and take two defenders with him to open up space.

Schenn was better than I expected him to be, glad to see McCabe's bounceback, and still don't know why Gustafsson is on this team.

I really feel like a goal scorer for the 2LW position would round out this roster nicely. Someone with speed who can offset Tavares' skating and can bump ROR to 3C. Right now that 2nd line is a little too slow for my liking.

*Woll, after the early goal against, played solidly and is showing a good glove.
*Best game of the year for Kerfoot.
*Morgan Rielly as well, his skating is back and he was more physical.
*Jarnkrok too, skating hard and effectively.
*General observation: we have players willing to take a hit to make a play, and throw a hit when the chance is there. I like this aspect of the team's progression as we take shape.
*The 4th line is disruptive, skates well and was a little unlucky in not being rewarded for their efforts.
*Schenn impressed me, he doesn't take shit. And I think played well when on the ice with Rielly.
*McCabe has a nasty streak, he hits hard.
*O'Rielly is a smart, defensively aware player, if you can get another winger, I think him and Jarnkrok + could make a deceptively effective line.

Auston Matthews was my only concern from tonight's game. I thought he skated a lot of empty calories away, had a couple of spurts of energy, but as others have observed, something is off.
