Not only did Hutch play well tonight.. He looked like a legit NHL goalie. Now idk if that's a fluke but his positioning was great all night, he didn't have happy feet, and he didn't go for many swims if at all. Hopefully he can give us a couple more of those!

He’s been so solid. Complete 180 on last season so far. 2-1-0 for him, and the one loss isn’t even on him.

I noticed that Matthews didn't go right to Nylander to celebrate either. It was only Willie and Holl.

Some of you posters man.

He had Willy take the faceoff after the Marner/JT, but maybe it was because willy was on his strong side. I was wondering if he would do that before the OT started because of Matty's wrist, so maybe I'm just seeing confirmation bias, he could've done for other reasons.
That's the thing. Both could be a Matthews injury, both could be how they would normally handle the situation.

what a 3 minute sequence for willy and co. tie it win it.

hope we can start getting healthy and not add another to the i.r

i still want to see what woll can do if fred is out for another few games but hutch was the right decision today
Respectfully, no, you don't.

Matthews and Nylander have always clicked. Just Marner is the superior winger and they click better. That said, Tavares struggles way more without Marner driving his line. Some days not sure what to do with JT as he's aging and his contract is going to become hard to swallow. At 11 mil he needs to be driving his line, not needing a driver

Nylander is an elite and highly skilled puckhandler, he should be driving that line, he has the ability to do so, he just has to want to do it

I seriously think he's suffering from that severe injury last year. Doesn't seem to have the wicked shot anymore.
Absolutely what's up with him. He absolutely blows past guys and makes some pretty high IQ plays, but I think his wrist mobility is a little limited and it's affecting the execution of those plays. And.. well getting your tendons sliced will do that to ya lol.

Would someone who watched this game please tell me how Mathews earned an assist on the winning goal ? He was off to the side of the scrum.

probably cause Nylander blew coverage on the Calgary goal, gets a cheap one to tie the game and than takes his spot in fake hockey only to see Willie score the winner

He might be scared that he'll be up next on the JT reclamation project and miss out on all those sweet assists from Matthews snipes. If anyone can get JT going again though it's him.

Gutsy win, I posted in the GDT we would lose after not scoring on that PP with like 8 mins left. Glad to be wrong!

he hits it first. Then Hyman. Then willy. Flames never get control so it’s last 2 leafs that touch it.

edit. For the winning goal? He passes
It to willy who skates with it and goes bar down

I thought JT has some his best shifts in a while when Marner was on his wing

I noticed Tavares was really making a point to carry the puck for longer durations through the neutral zone but "it was a work in progress" to put it in the most neutral terms. Just seems like a guy who needs to sort of rebuild his game at the moment. If there's still a lingering oblique issue it needs to heal. Other than that his skating and mobility needs work and his hand eye is off too.

Good teams a find a way to win but oh boy the team said we can't score these last 2 games. The pp died up and the 5v5 scoring.

Shove it and burn with the flames

Right!? What an assinine comment! Flames got way more than they deserved, they got owned all night, capitalized on the biggest defensive gaff, and could not put it away.

Both games we dominated. I don't know where the advanced stats are, but I would imagine the expected goals for 5v5 was heavily in our favouor.
