Overall from what I caught... just a solid game. Some guys had some rust which is to be expected but Nylander was looking like a beast out there.

Now on to game 2. Looking forward to a Matty snipe. Let's go.

Malgin looked better, I think Holmberg looked better than everyone else there.

The others just had more "wow" moments, and ZAR is a completely different role.

I really liked Holmberg's play.
He was also playing with Willy and Malgin who both looked outstanding, so probably harder to stand out on tv. A quiet game isn't necessarily a bad one either. In the end, the more guys that can push for spots in the lineup, the better.

Holmberg impressed. You have to isolate in on him to appreciate his game.

ZAR seems like a safe, no brainer signing that will fit on any 4th line look for a contender. His defensive play and physicality are more polished/consistent than any of the internal options.

Minten showing he can hang. Now imagine 2 more WHL seasons + 1 AHL year from now and I see the potential framework there for a 2/3 C.

I was just thinking that reading the comments. I didn’t really notice him like some others.

Loved seeing the depth guys finishing their checks. Early days but the depth looks better this year

Tavares skating stride looks much more comfortable than last season. He can pot 40 this year. Marner was typical early season Marner - sloppy, doing a bit too much. Nylander as strong and fast as I've seen him. If his conversion off rush chances was better he'd be truly elite. Gio looks slow but I'm not too worried. Holl looked like an NHLer and better than the rest of the D (as he should - still good to see)

Malgin was the biggest standout of the hopefuls. He'll get a long look at line 2. Minten shows flashes of being a really solid bottom 6 guy some day. Gaudette looked uncomfortable.. he needs another look but I think he benefits from starting with the Marlies. Holmberg looks like a safe option for an injury callup.

good game, glad hockey is back!
