Series Talk: Leafs vs Lightning Pre-Playoff Thread

Who wins?

Something is wrong in Tampa. They‘re playing like they did in game 1 of the playoffs last year. If they don't compete against the Leafs, they’ll get run out of the building. They can’t give away one this year, let alone two.

Maybe there‘s nothing left in the tank and know it’s the end of the line.

The biggest difference with Tampa this year and last year is losing someone like Palat. That dude absolutely killed us last year. Also, eventually a team is just going to run out of gas, its gotta be physically and mentally taxing making the cup finals 3 years in a row, and throw the weird covid seasons into that.

Ultimately none of that matters though and its up to the leafs to make that push through.

Why the hell would you play Samsonov? Tampa will run him at EVERY opportunity because of course they will, why wouldn't they?

Why would they NOT want to weaken a 1st round opponent?

f*** that, you put Woll in both nights, or Murray in both nights, or hell you put in Jett Alexander in both nights, I don't give a f*** you do whatever you to do to protect Samsonov.

And that goes for Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Reilly, Brodie, McCabe, ROR, EVERYBODY.

Tuesday WOULD be nice to get going into the playoffs, I won't lie.

But It's not more important than staying healthy, these are glorified pre season games they mean NOTHING

Probably come back to bite them in the end, but play a man or two short if they have to.
At forward Marner and Matthews and ROR should Sit, however ROR needs the game speed to get ready, so he has to play
Limit the ice time for Brodie, Gio, McCabe

Let the rest rip.

Maybe, or maybe they don't care because they own, that other than being legally required to play them, they are a waste of time, they mean nothing

They have to win a round this year and it looks like it could happen.

Sit the irreplaceable guys, Marner, Matthews, Brodie ( can’t sit ROR)

It is what it is and three of Lily, Holl, Rielly, Gustafsson, or Schenn will be playing in game one, so I’d advise them to keep their head up.

They’re playing possum.

They’ll show up in round 1.

They’ve been doing it all year, I don’t like their chances of turning on a switch and going on a run. However, they could still intimidate the Leafs and win that series, but I can’t see them beating anyone else.

You most certainly CAN sit ROR and you shouI want as many Marlies in the lineup as possible.

You think what I said about them running Samsonov ONLY applies to Samsonov?

If I gave you that impression let me assure it does not.

They will run ANYBODY that they feel can be a difference maker and that includes ROR.

Again why wouldn't they? Why would Tampa NOT try to weaken the Leafs prior to round 1? of course they would, and they will.

TB will intimidate the Leafs beginning Tuesday , that’s why it would be nice to sit Marner Matthews and Brodie. ROR needs the ice time and the competition, and he won’t get intimidated.

Imo you play Schenn to send a message. Get in their heads so they will be nervous when playoffs come and they see him at the blueline waiting to crush someone

I think they are tired. They've played a lot of hockey the past few years 🤞🏽

Tampa isn't intimidating anyone.

My heart chose handshake in 7 but my head tells me the Leafs finish this in no more than 6.

The Lightning really aren't the same this year. Still a good squad but hardly world-beaters.

Not just Palat, the loss of McDonagh has been catastrophic. McDonagh led their entire team in ice time 5v5 last series against us and posted a 54% high danger corsi with those tough minutes

Also, in the playoffs they were able to run McDonagh - Cernak which was one of the best defensive pairs in the NHL and allowed Sergachev + Hedman to dominate weaker usage. That's no longer there and Hedman needs to take the top responsibility now. He's not doing great in that situation

First time in my life I'll be outa country to start the playoffs.... not too excited, and hope they'll have it on in Sacramento bars.

Optimistic me says this is what the team needs.
