Well, Nylander is one player I don't think he should trade, so that shouldn't be an issue.

If they don't win 1, maybe 2 playoff rounds at least though, he, or whoever is in charge will have to make a fairly substantial change to the core you would think.

Leaf's potential 1st round match

- Tampa/Panthers (if leafs finish 2nd/3rd)
- Canes/Tampa/Panthers (If Leafs finish wild card)
- Boston/Pens (if leafs win the division)

there are no easy teams.... better chance against boston/pens compared to other teams in 1st round but leafs have gotta win the division for that

The Bruins were absolute experts of this. I was jealous of that team and style of play.

The refs won't call everything, so keep doing it over and over and when you're down 3 penalties to 0, you know you're good for the next 2. That's when you do your damage.

I've coached football at both the collegiate / high school level. I have no problem admitting that I've always coached my guys to play tough and greasy, through the echo of the whistle. The refs will call about 10% of what they actually see, but you'll get away with the rest of it. That style of play often intimidates, irritates and frustrates the opponent out of playing their game. You can get more skilled teams on tilt very quickly, as long as you can live with taking a penalty once in a while.

If they see a penalty, they must call it. It's that simple. There should be no "feeling".

Yep, but they decide which team's style of play they are accepting on a whim, which is not acceptable. You just can't decide to not call the game by the rules because one team is playing on/over the line.

Campbell looks like he's coming back down to earth. To be fair he's probably played more than expected this season, needs to recharge.

How is it robotic to do your job? I'm not saying they must catch ALL penalties. That's robotic.

But if they see one, they should call it.

If the refs are told to game manage, then that's a problem.

Unfortunately, that's just how it is. The game will be called in a manner that keeps fans tuned in and keeps the coming back.

Hopefully it's just a slump or he's fighting through an injury. We'll see.

100% mental for him right now. He is perfectly fine physically.

He just is way to slow with his reactions right now. Out of position, making plays he simply should not be making as a guy who is as experienced as he is.

There really isn't an easy out in the east. It doesn't matter, they had the easiest out last season and still lost. You cannot use the "we lost to a great team" argument anymore. At a certain point if the team (core) cannot get it done, you have to change something.

Honestly, some of my friends have stopped watching because a big part is the officiating randomness. I also shut some games off after a while because it sucks the enjoyment out of the game for me. I'm probably in the minority.

I think any of those teams in tough in a 1st round match up. Regardless who they play they just need to find a way to break through.

Funny enough I'd rather play Florida the most then maybe Pittsburgh.

Their goaltending isn't going to hold up. Florida scores a lot but they let a lot in too. That hockey isn't going to fly in the playoffs. Time will tell.

As long as we have shanny/dubas running things none of the core is getting moved out. they are committed to this core come what may....

Matthews and Marner contract especially Marner's contract has really handcuffed the team we cannot add quality support pieces because we got no cap room.

playoffs is a different beast; regular season antics don't work in playoffs...

The problem is that it's not unique to hockey. Football has highly questionable officiating at times and basketball has become a complete joke in the way the game is called.

It sucks, but that's how it is.

This game is 4-4 going into the 3rd period. That's exactly what the league wants.

the cap prevents super teams. Every year there are a half dozen very good teams. Unfortunately you can be a very good team but that still only gives you a 1 in 6 chance of winning the regular season. Playoffs even clouds the issue more as luck plays a big part. They say anything can happen in the playoffs, for a reason.

Wow.

Still Rangers and Islanders on this road trip.

This is one helluva trip.

Mrazek was okay in the Arizona game.
That’s debatable but he has been injured so much this year he has been unavailable and I’m betting now that Boston is nipping at our heels Keefe will be afraid to play him

Playoffs are also clouded because of the stupid divisional playoff format. Could have a fantastic season but if your unfortunate enough to be in a division with a lot of good teams, all your good season will get you is a tougher playoff matchup.
